M340i Instrument Cluster showing an X5

On my MY21 M340i, the instrument cluster unexpectedly switched to showing an X5.

At the same time this happened, I noticed a few other features started behaving differently:

The central display area in the instrument cluster is now blank (before it would show the map or assisted driving view).
The BC button no longer does anything.
The menu button for the heads up display no longer does anything (before it would show media controls, etc).
Navigation directions no longer show up on the heads up display.

I took it into the dealership and after a couple days, they opted to order a new part that is on the way.

Anyone had this happen before?

I think I remember reading about something similar happening either here or in the X3 sub forum. I believe their 3 series was replaced either by a pic of an X3 or vice versa. They ended up taking it to the dealership to get it sorted out.

i believe that g20 and X's share hardware and so, idrive firmware. Do you update recently your idrive version? can check what version you have?

Someone hacked your car. Now seriously, that's what happens when You do technology for sake of technology. We don't need everything digital. Instrument cluster can be analog with decent BC display. BMW, as most advanced automotive gigant, should make standards and trends. No to follow them.

7th digit of your VIN— is it a J (Mexico) or C (Germany)?

Country of build is not based on the 7th digit of vin but instead it's based on the first letter which W is from Germany and 3 is from Mexico. Also, unless your order is special individual paint or priority one paint like Tanzanite Blue II and Dravit Gray, your car is going to be built in Mexico. Hope this help.

+1. Unless they changed it on the 2021. Which in guessing they wouldn't have.

The country of build was Mexico. The VIN starts with a 3 and the 7th digit is a J.

The idrive version is 07/2020.54. It hasn't been updated recently.
Also, after the update, it took a few weeks for the issue to surface so not sure if it's directly related to the update.

I've had the same issues with my G20 330e and I've been informed a new ECU is required. The car went into the dealership on the 9th December 20 and I'm still waiting...

It happened to me as well but a reset solved it for me. (really long press on the volume button so it restarted twice), a minute or so. It has so far only happened once.

Do you really think this issue will depend upon where your car is assembled? The electronics are completely common.
