BMW "Impulse Campaign".

My G20 is not yet a year old. I've only done 19,000 miles. I have been contacted by the dealer with an "Impulse Campaign" on a 320d M Sport - never heard of one before. Bottom line is 2.9% APR, a £4,000 deposit from me, "extra support" of £3,000 from BMW and I drop my G20 off, they settle the finance, and out I go with a new car. In fact, the car that they were offering on this deal, whilst a nice spec, was way under-specced compared to mine. Are these campaigns commonplace, or is this as I suspect, an attempt to get inventory out of the door in these difficult times?

These sort of 'targeted deals' often serve a few purposes.

The first is that it can get higher specced and desirable cars onto the forecourt for the dealer who can then make a got return on them.

The second as you surmised is that it allows the dealer to shift in stock cars thus bolstering their sales.

It also allows a dealer to offload unpopular or end of line cars to naive people who think they are getting a great deal.

Sometimes however a really great deal does spring up. I for instance very nearly fell for an F10 M5 which was offered at a £35k discount (brand new).

If they want to phone me to swap my X5 for an M340d I'd be more than happy to oblige :-)

It sounds like the dealer is just trying to shift cars they have in stock to hit their numbers.
