Downpipe Questions & Recommendations 2019 G20 330i

I’ve been recently looking for a high flow catted downpipe so that I could take my g20 330i to stage 2. I have seen a few catted down pipes but I’m looking for feedback on anyone of them if anyone here has one of them installed. Ill link them below.

*Disclaimar* - I’m looking for a Stage 2 capable downpipe, with the least drastic smell on idle as well as highway speeds.

Right now I am looking for any ownership comparisons between the evolution racewerk and active autowerk’s downpipe to see if the $600 price gap makes that big of a difference as far as smell is concerned. As well as a comparison on the CTS turbo downpipe to explain why it seems so affordable compared to the other two.

CTS Turbo - https://x-ph.com/cts-turbo-bmw-f2x-f...h-dp-0037-cat/

Evolution Racewerks - https://x-ph.com/evolution-racewerks...or-b46-engine/

Active Autowerks - https://x-ph.com/active-autowerke-bm...tted-downpipe/

I can only comment on the AA Catted Downpipe as compared to stock and as compared to my past experience with other downpipes on my Evo X. The AA does not smell at all, IMO. The Mrs. Has never complained once of the smell (and she has a nose that picks up if I use cinnamon or not in my pancakes, lol). Smell was a huge issue when I had a high flow catted downpipe from Cobb for my Evo X back in 2012. It was horrendous. I have never received a CEL or any issues whatsoever with the AA in the ~6 months it has been installed…. This includes multiple track days. The quality of the AA seemed phenomenal. I’m not a metal guy, my background is in elastomers, but I can appreciate a well manufactured product.

Final point - Mike mike@x-ph.com is the man to go too for purchasing. His customer service and order processing speed have a positive role in decision making as well.

If the check engine light is a concern, get the active autowerks, as the other two options will trigger the CEL. That's why the price is higher than the competition.

Evolution Racewerks price is due to the downpipe being fully handbuilt in the US.

CTS is a less expensive option that handles stage 2 maps with no or barely noticeable fuel smell at a low cost.

To answer your question, the main difference between the three is the CEL and build quality, not the fuel smell. But keep in mind; lower quality cats do not last as long as the more expensive ones, and thats when the fuel smell becomes an issue.

I will give another recommendation for the AA catted downpipe. No check engine light, it’s a nice, but moderate boost in volume and a deeper tone. It’s very close to stock unless you push it a little, and then the sound opens up. Never obnoxious, just more present. And the performance boost is outstanding. Allows the turbo to spool up much quicker, especially paired with the Dinan intake. It a very noticable boost in power, and more importantly how quickly it comes on.

Buy from mike@x-ph.com he has the best prices in the business, quick shipping, and unrivaled support. And he’s an enthusiast like we are.

Anyone with a sound video of a AA downpipe on a 330I? I've searched all over youtube and can't seem to find one.

Thank you for the honest feedback! I think that I am going to go with the AA high flow catted downpipes as well and pair it with the dinan axel back, if anyone has personal sound clips or anything other than the promotional ones I'd love to hear them!

I received the dinan exhaust and had it installed by a reputable mechanic here’s my little review so far.

The exhaust tone, finish and fitment is superb! But there are two things that i’d like to point out and hopefully remedy. Within the box sent from dinan i was sent 1 dinan exhaust tip and 1 unbranded tip which may have just been a mistake i’ll attach a picture below. The other issue that I ran into is that when the valves are closed you hear a rather loud ticking noise provided in the video below. Should i reach out to you or contact dinan directly? The exhaust was purchased through extreme power house!

Thank you for the feedback; you can either contact Dinan directly or you can send the pictures to support@x-ph.com, and we will create a ticket with Dinan for you.

I’m new to all of this. I never did any engine or exhaust mods to my previous M sport. If everything else remains stock and I just add the AA catted downpipe do I need a tune? Or can I just plug and play.

No tune needed, the active autowerke downpipe does not trigger the check engine light.

Is the AA downpipe ok to use with a JB+? I know the JB+ is mostly for stock engines and the JB4 is a better option, but I like the JB+ as it's easy to take off for dealer visits, so quick to install/few wires etc.
