Uh-Oh G22 down

My daughter lost control around a corner. She only wound up with a broken hand. Not sure of the fate of the car yet. 2022 21,000 miles

Very sorry to hear about your accident. Everybody gets ONE lol. I had mine in January. 2018 440i with MPPSK - slid under a box truck and was totaled.

Not sure where yours will land. Although the damage is hard to see clearly, it looks like hood, light, bumper . maybe more. Airbags went off, and those can be a few grand each.

I had a lot of damage and mine was totaled out by insurance and cost them over $50k (well, cost me . . . as I will see my insurance rate jump for the next 5 years).

The good news is . . . your daughter is okay. That's the important part.

Very sorry to see a G car take a hit. Happy that your daughter had (relatively) minor injuries. The car sacrificed itself for your child. Job well done :thumbs up

Best part was she didn’t have to call police the car did everything for her. She was too shaken up to call anyway.

Very glad she’s not seriously injured. Given what I see in the photos added to the unseen damage that is likely the odds are high the car is totaled. Impact forces have to be pretty high to trigger all of those airbags. And replacing the airbags and repairing the interior will not be cheap.

Talked to the body shop and they are currently at $20,000 in repairs but haven’t finished the estimate yet.

Glad daughter is OK. This is going to seem insensitive, but the investigator in me wonders, and I ask with NO judgment.

Slick roads, excessive speed, inattention? Were the nannies turned on?

Does she drive with her hand on top of the steering wheel? I ask that because I have only heard stories about that risk, no real evidence.

Again, very glad she is OK.

She was coming from the sprint car races running late for curfew took a turn too fast road was damp with a bit of gravel (back road) tail end spun out and she couldn’t recover. Cop says she was doing between 45 and 50 in a 30. Got a ticket for road conditions but she signed up for a street to strip course and the ticket gets dropped. It was just being in a hurry and lack of experience.

Thank goodness she was driving a safe car and wasn't seriously hurt. What a relief.

Your comment emphasises just how big a gulf there is in road traffic law enforcement between our countries. For that much over in our equivalent (50 km/h) you'd have had a mandatory minimum fine of $400 and 2 penalty points, assuming they just proceeded with the speeding and nothing else - likely, as no other vehicle involved. For a probationary driver (less than 3 years licensed) one more offence and you'd lose your licence for between 3 and 5 months. Demerits are doubled on school and public holidays so licence loss can be for a single offence in those circumstances. We don't have the option to take a course to expunge the offence.

It helped that the state trooper was a retired Marine as I am also. Plus my other daughter’s boyfriend is a firefighter and was there and knew the cop so I think that helped quite a bit.

Here in the UK most likely a ticket for ‘without due care and attention’ and possibly speeding (although for a single vehicle non injury accident they probably wouldn’t get the investigators out), most likely six points minimum which for a new driver is automatic ban plus have to retake the driving test.

Main thing is she is ok and nobody else involved.

Thankfully she & nobody else were hurt. Seems there are multiple lessons here like a simple phone call to say she was going to be late; not speeding, and especially in poor weather conditions; not allowing an inexperienced driver to be behind the wheel of such a powerful vehicle. Could've ended up so much worse. I also don't think using connections to get her out of the appropriate consequences was teaching the right lesson either, but not my kid. Again, thankfully it resulted in just a damaged vehicle.

Oh man, I bet she feels awful, too. Tell her when I was 16 I was driving my 1968 Fire Engine red Mustang Coupe down a wet road in the rain, with a girl whom I had a major crush on riding with me after school. Traffic came to a stop, I was too close to the car in front and smacked the car ahead of me. I was devastated, didn't get the girl.

The performance center has a teen driving course and a driver control school for adults. I recommend whichever one for which she is the appropriate age.

Glad she's okay. One of the things I like about BM3 and other tuning options is you can run a "gimp" tune (reduce max speed and other things) and hand someone else the keys. That way they can't go crazy with the car.
