I'll wait for LCI give them time to change that ugly grill. But AWD/Manual combo is a very good news.

If that timeline is true There is no way I'm waiting. Which sucks because I really wanted to see what driving magic the G80 was about

Ok now I'm confused. How do you get BMW to confirm the leak showing a big grille then turn around and say it will not have said grille without a direct quote from BMW stating this?

From all the insider leaks here (Scott and co.) we were told the M3 will NOT have a different grille than the M4. I'm leaning on our leaks here and not this half baked article. Don't get your hopes up that the grille on the M3 won't be huge

2021 models have been released as early as 8 months prior to the actual year.

Seemed like the M5 came out like 4 days after the new 5 series was released... Maybe the M3 and M4 need some emergency plastic surgery? My lease on my M4 is up in August and I was hoping I could slide right into a new one. I'm way under my miles, so I may just buy it and drive it until they decide to release the new M cars.

I think that is what they alluded to in the article.
To my comprehension skill as a foreigner....they didn't want to explain the grille difference between from motor show and from leaked picture. But they didn't imply they're working on modifying the grille from the leaked picture they confirm is real.

When does bmw ever give timelines for launch publicly. The direct quote was that "the car is ready." AND @Scott26 mentioned in the other thread that press drives of prototypes (as is now bmw custom) are happening soon... take from all that what you want

I did read this as xdrive and Manual combo being close to confirmed, at that was a direct quote, language barrier non withstanding

The media will attend a driving day which will specifically feature the M3 so they will get to try the new car in its camouflaged prototype stage.

I see it as both being introduced by this time next year just as the X5M and X6M in which X6 just launched in August, with the next 4 debuting in June next year.

Now what does that give time for in that space between launches that would be highly relevant for the M3 and M4?

The new 5er was launched October 2016.
The new M5 was launched June 2017.

Exactly. Why continue to use that non-truth when the evidence supports that it is in fact false. And everybody knows it.

No changes are being made. Both the 4/i4 and M3/M4 all use the same interpretation. There is no going back now as they are all signed off for production.

You're right, the M5 did follow the 5 Series very closely this time. In fact, it was the quickest turnaround ever between those two models. Less than a year separated them.

Remember, however, that the M5 does not have a coupe brother with which it shares styling. On the other hand, the M3 does, or at least has for the past two generations, and for that reason BMW elected to hold off its launch in both of those cases so that the two siblings can be introduced together. A 2021 launch date, if true, would simply mean that BMW has decided to go that same route again. So no big surprise here. This has always been one likely timeline - arguably the most likely - out of just two or three legitimately possible ones.

I don't mean to jump on the "Ugly car, going to Mercedes, BRB" train, but holy balls this is ugly. I've had a new M3 since I can remember, but damn, that AMG-GT is looking at a wayyyyyyy better option right now.
Vote with your wallets people.

f30 started production in late 2011 and f80 unveiled in January 2014 in NAIAS, and I first saw f80 on road in May. Therefore I think early 2021 is likely because g20 sop is late 2018. Since NAIAS will not be held in January next year, I am guessing the first public debut will be in LA in late 2020, Geneva in March 2021, or NY in April 2021 (latest case).
I can't wait to get rid of my x2, this car is a trash!
