The F80 M3 was not great sounding, I thought BMW would work on that and make the G80 sound a bit better but I guess not.

If sound is what you're after get an M340i and just add some aftermarket parts. The single turbo sounds so much better and I think that's exactly what I'm doing.

BMW nailed the M340i IMO, and given the fact I have a track toy already, I'd love a great sounding daily car for myself. Don't need the M3/M4 specific suspension and all that. Give me a nice sounding, comfortable, handsome car with less performance and a much better sound over the M3/M4 any day of the week as long as I have a track toy to fulfill my speed needs.

the grill on new 4er, will be similiar to 8er, so as the headlights, and so as new m3, they will share front end like they did since 2008/2009 and e90/e92

*raises hand sheepishly*

Uhh, what's an OPF?

I am but a humble former E92 owner interested in one of these, and those cars simply used a compressed mix of fuel and air to propel the car forward and make lots of noise.

Someone please share some positive news that highlights exciting developments and promises for the future of the motor industry. It seems each day this industry becomes more regulated, more suppressed and less exciting. *rant over*
feel the same way. On a plus note, we are probably about 5 years away of the EU collapsing and imploding into itself. I'm sure itll take some beuracracy with it.
The EU has been working hard to fail for over 30 years

Would make no difference. Exhaust valves still fully open in comfort at 100% throttle above a certain RPM and the car sounds exactly the same at high load / high RPM as it would in Sport. Inside the car, active sound is much quieter in comfort which is why it seems different.

I got a 991 GT3 from one dealer and a Panamera 4S from another, I told both dealers I better get a GT3 or an RS. Here's to hoping one of them only charges me 20k-25k markup when the time comes

I suppose if the car really does end up sounding like that, aftermarket exhausts will be flying off the shelves.

Or, the real reason is that BMW will be making a pretty penny from customers ticking the M performance exhaust

Tree hugging EU policy makers hate exhaust sound because it insults their Priuses.

Yea the gt2 rs sounded quiet too. This video is pointless.
And what are you bringing to the table? lol. video shows a lot and the sound is representative even if it's not perfect ...

Admittedly its only a short flypast but its better than anything else I've come across so far.

Also in the video are various other BMW prototypes including the M8, 8 series GC, X5,6M(?), new Audi RS6, Merc AMG GTR black series and the 992 GT3 (can definitely hear the effects of the OPF vs the previous generation).

G80 M3 flypast can be heard at 7:50.

Video starts at 2:30 for the start of prototype testing.

Initial impressions seem to be that the G80 could sound quite alright, less raspy than the S55 for sure but it still has elements of the S55 underneath to me, also perhaps a bit more muted, no surprise since it'll have an OPF.

Let me know what you think!

Enjoy

Thanks for the content ... love the relative agility of the M cars but definitely prefer the sounds of Audi RS and AMG cars...

I wonder if we'll still be able to get those in Europe, what with all those stupid politicians and their rules about sound.

I'd like to think there will be. I think the M5 has the option of the MPE over here so would have thought there would be one for future M models too.

with OPF filters and possible speed regulation in new models it will be guaranteed for me that I will never (or hold out as long as i can) purchase a 2019 and up vehicle.

For me the OPF filter automatically ruins it for me. I am quite sure many people will not spend 70k plus when it drops for it to sound equivalent to a M340i with a MPE.

It isn't bmw's fault but it's very disappointing. e90/e92 m3's will become pricy down the road i think.

I'm fairly sure it's not illegal (at least in the UK) to replace the OPF exhaust system with an aftermarket one that doesn't contain the OPF?

As for the GPS speed tracking law, let's just hope it fails miserably and there is a lot of backlash resulting in it being repealed.

Yeah the current one is meh, the first gen was best looking x6, but the new x5 is good looking so x6 should look good too I hope.
