B Drive mode

Apologies if this has been asked before, but is there a way to code the car to default to B instead of D on the gear shift lever?

Anyone have any luck with this?

I don’t believe so, on the earlier cars like mine you have to push the gear selector to the left to engage B mode and the new ones I think you have to pull the lever back once or twice when in D.

Hi
You can do setup D for energy recovery on HIGH - same like B
Go to MENU-DRIVING SETTINGS-DRIVETRAIN AND CHASSIS-ENERGY RECOVERY IN D

Not really... I tried on my i4 and the HIGH doesn't behave like B. I wished BMW would allow us to set B mode by default.

Same on mine. I really think I will miss that when I upgrade in the future. I have a lot of fun with that feature. It provides a manual down shift feel, especially with the Iconic sound on.

Anyone know if when in B mode the "braking" when you lift off the gas is actually not using the brake pads at all and all power goes to the motors/regen?

i4 uses blended brakes so no way to tell from the driver perspective. bmw does not provide information on regen vs physical brake application regardless of the mode used.

from my personal experience, I drove B mode only for a week with less than 10 brake pedal application. however my wheels (more on the rears) were covered with brake dust so the physical brakes are definitely used in B mode.
