'Hey BMW' speech recognition
One thing I have found out about BMW voice assistant is that if you try to use it too quickly after starting just your vehicle, it doesn't seem to understand a damn thing you say.
It's also very fussy about how you may ask for something and saying something like: "Show me the tire pressure" works a lot better than "What is the tire pressure" The mistakes in the speech recognition logic can range from comical to downright frustrating. Or the system just seems rather brain dead at times: Me - "Phone Jo-anne" (my sister) Car - Ok, I am showing you the weather It was probably my mistake to use the word phone. Call works, but I'm not sure phone ever has for me. Me - I ask about tire temperature BMW - Ok, it will be warmer soon (raising heat level 2 degrees) I probably said 'What is' rather than 'Show me'. Maybe asking in a question form is wrong and you need to be direct with a command? Me - Where is the nearest A@W (fast food) Car - Ok switching to AM radio I don't think the car will ever understand A@W. I know there's been many more times it's done things completely different than I asked. There are certain words and phrases which it probably should know, but it simply doesn't. Or it just continually confuses certain words with inappropriate actions. Rob |

The default is "hello BMW," you have to change the activation phrase from the voice assistant settings.

I use "Hey" all of the time and it works just fine. Did you check to make sure you have voice recognition activated? Perhaps it is shut off.

I've got this car's VA set to "Oksana" for its wake word (my previous X5 Was "Villanelle" for any KillingEve fans 🤣. Her and I understand each other perfectly 99% of the time. I use it all the time
The other day my passenger said "Oksana put my window down" and she put the passenger window down. I've read the VA is supposed to recognize who is giving her directions, but never saw it happen until now.

Hell I even told the system to take me to a couple of shops/restaurants that are not typical chains with easily recognizable names and it worked on the very first try, including a Japanese sushi restaurant. Recognized it immediately and plotted the course accordingly. I'm really impressed with the setup. Beats the hell out of the Audi system in my other car. |

I name all my cars so I use that as the wake word. Works pretty well so far. She is a tad slow to respond sometimes. I blame my Boston accent.

This is actually the first car I've had where I feel it somewhat works. I've been able to use it to navigate to addresses as well as some climate/phone call stuff without any issues.

Sometimes when I'm pointing out other nice BMW on the street to my wife in the car, it will activate Hello BMW for no reason. So I changed the wake up name from BMW to Smarta$$ yesterday. However I noticed that I now can activate the system by saying either Hey BMW or Hey Smarta$$...

She's a little slow to respond at times, but I've noticed it has gotten a lot better since the last software update. I just wish I could give her a British accent. My favorite command by far is "Hey BMW, my ass is cold" to activate the seat heating.

Have you verified that it is activated? If it is, try rebooting iDrive and see if there is any difference. Does it work when you use the button?
