The bigger unknown is the depreciation factor

I've done 15K miles in the first year of ownership of a 330e Touring and have averaged 56mpg. It's a nice place to be, doesn't feel underpowered - or suffer from the throttle lag I experienced on my previous 340i and M140i - and even has painted brake calipers.

At that mileage, definitely go company car route, especially when it’s a PHEV - no brainer.

Done the maths tonight and will be over £210 per month better off going for the company car

I'm sure you'll have considered this already, but the stability of your employment over the next few years is important. With a company car you've some degree of protection - it's would just be a case of handing it back if they ended your employment. Financing your own car is all your risk.

The downside I experienced on my final company car was that the tax rate rose significantly higher over the 4 year term than I had expected.

I'd have to agree on the 330e. A nice new car with zero worry about costs plus cash in the bank is a no brainer.
Obviously the m340 would be great but who knows what it will be worth in 4 years time.

You can see from my signature below that I have gone from an F31 335d MSport to an M340d. Loved the F31 335d [remapped + xHP) but moving to M340d MHT is a huge step forward. Its much quieter, very quick (not quite up to the 335d though!) far more economical, better equipped, more comfortable and just more refined throughout. Simply a great car as it does everything well. Residuals are always obviously a consideration but as the bureauocrats are trying to kill off all internal combustion powered cars you might as well drive what you really want while you can.

I’ve just got a 330e M Sport (not Pro) as a company car, and during my first 285 mile drive, staring will a full charge, and ending with the batter depleted, I got 55MPG.

I didn’t have the choice of a car allowance, but if I had I would have still chosen the company car option. - Although I wouldn’t class myself as a Petrol Head.

Just a wee update:

I placed an order for a 330e through my company car scheme, however I kept coming back to the m340d… so on Monday I collected a 21plate m340d and am really glad I did, loving the car!

As others have said is much more refined, quieter and generally a better place to be than my old 335d.

You made the right choice, I went the 40i route rather than 40d but I think life is just too short, I mean the £££ difference between a 30e and 40d isn't really that much, and what £££ value can you put on that smile you get from an m340i/d?

Enjoy it.

Performance car's g forces wear off after 3 pulls then you don't feel anything after that. (well at least i haven't found one that will give me the same rush every time - see my car list).

i'd say get the more cost effective option. drive it on performance mode so the electric motor gives power rather than provide efficiency and it will be very close to the D

Huh? Not sure about this advice. There is no "performance mode" I guess you mean sport? An electric motor is only ever going to give power. You must be talking about the difference between sport and eco pro? What is getting "close to the D"?

Yours might "wear off after 3 pulls" but mine definitely doesn't.

I think he means drive the 330e in xtraboost 'mode' so you get the extra hp for 10 seconds

As for close to the D he probably means acceleration is closer to the M340d in xtraboost mode (it's not really, looking at mid 5 seconds to 60mph)

For the sake of a second or two getting to 60mph, which I'd rarely use day to day, and the buzz of the acceleration which I'd soon get used to, I know which option I would have chose. Hassle free, worry free and depreciation free motoring (accepting theres tax implications) would swing it for me. Plus the £17k in my pocket.
But ETTO.

after 3 pulls in any car i no longer feel the g force, they normalise. sure it's still fun but there's always a faster car. after 3 pulls in my m550i the 750Nm of pull which gave me HOLY SHEE no longer gives me any of that. now i wonder what the m5CS is like. luckily i can't afford that so that's that. i'm sure if i got that i'd want a tesla plaid next.

i'd get the 330e if i were OP. 5s vs 4s no difference if you never drove the 4s car. do not test the M340D lol. don't ask. my subaru is a 5s car and it's still plenty fast enough to scare 4 extra passengers and their luggage.

with the 330e - you can drive in electric, in hybrid eco using the battery to save gas, or in performance mode using the battery to max out acceleration. you can use car entertainment and climate control without starting the engine, sit by the sea and watch the birds fly - bliss. heck you can also charge the battery at work with a walmart extension cord.

I’ve already bought and collected the m340d and cancelled my company car order… for now anyway. The deciding factor was the fact that I kept on coming back to the m340d and if I had went for the company car I’d be stuck in the scheme for 4years. Therefore I decided to ‘scratch that itch’ now, if I change my mind in a year or so I can always join the company car scheme then and sell my car.

At the end of the day life is too short and I am currently not regretting my decision. 😎

It wasn’t the acceleration which swayed my decision, it was partly due to the spec level and the looks of the 330e as I couldn’t get the pro pack and various other options I wanted

I opted out of the company car scheme a few years back and never looked back. Currently drive an M340D and love it. Financially given the miles I do I am well in pocket compared to when I had the company car. My allowance plus the mileage recompense covers all my costs and some.

To be fair I wouldn't buy a G20 that didn't have the pro pack, just makes it look so much nicer!
