Speed limiter qlitch?
In the past I’ve tended to use cruise control when appropriate, but recently I have been using the LIM button (with a speed limit “add on”) set to adopt the road’s speed limit.
Yesterday and today were the first occasions I had a decent run on motorways using LIM, and on a couple of occasions on both days LIM briefly went berserk. It was as if it dropped down a couple of gears, accelerated past the set speed and the LIM indicator in the display also started flashing. I took my foot of the accelerator and once the speed dropped to the set level, it maintained that speed and the LIM indicator stopped flashing. (I did a software update to 2022-11 on Friday, but not having used LIM very much before the update, I have no reason to suspect that is the cause of the glitch.) Has anyone else had this issue? TIA. |

I use the limiter a lot, and never seen this. I wonder whether it has a kick down function where it’ll over-ride the limit if it senses that you’re trying to floor it?

Thanks.
I wondered if it might be that. I’m pretty sure I didn’t stab the accelerator, but I’ll see if I can make it kick down. It would actually be good if kick down did work. |

the limiter has a safety function in that if you plant the throttle it will kill the limiter to allow you to accelerate out of a dangerous situation

I'm pretty sure I didn't blip/stab/floor the accelarator, and I do occasionally invoke kick-down, so I know what that feels like when not in LIM mode. I'll do some experimenting with kick-down in LIM mode to find out how that behaves.
BTW - apologies, I should have ! |

Kick down overrides LIM.
I have used LIM in the past and it’s easy to not notice the pressure your foot might be applying upon rest. Gradually increasing pressure without knowing it and then you’re in kick down or close. LIM flashing I have never seen. I’d be inclined to check for stored fault codes. |

I've been caught out, 'forgetting' I'm using LIM as I leave a restricted zone. The sudden awakening of the drivetrain, from a dead throttle pedal.

I use it, but never let it auto set LIM. For eg on the M3 at the moment, there are 50mph roadworks, but the cameras pick up the 10mph work site speed limit.

After nearly 3 years, I didn't realise LIM was adaptive! Learnt something new. I use the adaptive cruise around town but there are times when this would be better suited.

A small aside on this..I had the adaptive cruise set on my 840 as I was coming off the M23 to join the M25, happily doing 70 when the car dropped a couple of years and accelerated hard….the speed limit on the HUD was showing 120! Presumably the smart motorway limit (the adaptive cruise always picks these up without fail) had been incorrectly set as I went through.

VW had a lot of problems with limiter converting mph over to kmh but the car's speed sticking to mph. Maybe all manufacturers have these glitches. Not entirely reassuring!!!

In town my camera sometimes sees the SO letters of a SOLD board as 80!
But it also picks up the 20 signs from left and right turns. System needs a lot more work. That’s why I have mine set to manual confirmation. |

The bit about “I have mine set to manual confirmation” intrigued me! How do you set that? |

Mine is set to 'manually' when I checked but doesn't seem to make any difference! I'll check it out more tomorrow on a run north of the border. |

The only time I have seen any of my BMWs ‘read’ anything is the memorable time when ‘cherries for sale 200 yards’ appeared from a road side sign Oh, and another, on the A27 going past The Amex Stadium (70mph) it sometimes ‘reads’ the 30mph sign on the slip road. |
