Dealers selling above msrp?

Dealers in California (Audi, Volvo, Kia, Hyundai, etc.) are all charging fees above MSRP.
Audi charges up to $10k above, Volvo has a standard $1500 up charge, Kia between $3k-$7k.

Is BMW up charging in Ca?

I went through a broker to get mine. Granted that comes with its own fee, it's still less than what dealers were marking up. but according to my broker all the local BMW dealers wanted 2-4k over msrp when he started looking at the end of July. Found a dealer to do a m340i order at MSRP for me at BMW of Chico.

Mandatory installation of limited PPF for $999 at my dealer. All of the other fees/taxes looked pretty normal.

Thanks! Dealer told me when I ordered, that we'd go w MSRP… no mention of additional costs.

Mandatory PPF - paint protection film? Or…?

Good find!

This article outlines the selling above sticker crazy rn

A Volvo dealer told me that they are only charging &1500 over MSRP because the overcharging at other dealers is leading customers to purchase more luxury cars - ie if a Jeep Wrangler is going for $10k over sticker, customers are deciding to buy a Volvo….??

Yes. At least I get something for my markup. Door edges, handle cups, bumper sill, touchscreen.

Ha.

That's cool! I've been looking at PPF here in the Bay Area and businesses are charging $6-10k for a film wrap!
Wondering why BMW would require this? Is it a lease?

No… I didn’t explain clearly. This is definitely not FULL PPF for $1k. It’s very limited application on door edges, handle cups, bumper sill, and touchscreen.

It’s being required so that they can mark it up from $150 (or whatever discount/wholesale price they pay) to $1k. It’s just nicer than adding “dealer markup” on the invoice.

(Not a lease.)

Copy that!
Nice that the dealer is offering smthg in exchange for the up charge! Honestly, I don't see why folks will pay $5-10k over MSRP…. Crazy

I agree, especially there's data showing the car industry is going into a correction.. soon a recession:
https://www.coxautoinc.com/wp-conten...esentation.pdf

I think dealers are nervous of what's ahead. They are going to be paying higher % for their floor line and the demand is softening. Maybe wait until end of year to see some dealer incentives to kick in? That's what I'm doing.

I got my M340i for MSRP in SoCal back in July. It takes some negotiation but you can get there. I bought mine from Irvine BMW but had to threaten them with the knowledge that Crevier BMW would sell me one at MSRP or else they would have attempted to tack on $5-10k.

It did help that my car is pretty low optioned, all it has is Mineral White Paint, Driver Assistance Package and 793is with locks. The Tacora Red interior was no cost, but a nice touch too.

Exactly this. They pad the numbers with these items, and since it's already installed, you're more apt to keep it.

We were able to order at MSRP with no dealer installed accessories or markup, though I have not yet taken delivery.

When I started shopping for my 330i in Aug, I was offered msrp at multiple Bay Area dealers. After some negotiations, Fairfield BMW offered $1200 discount which was bettered by Elk Grove BMW at $1500. Ended up by ordering through a broker and got even better discount.
If you look Mountain View BMW website, they are showing 1500-2000 discount for all 330i and around $3000 for 340i.
