(Map view) Live cockpit professional vs Audi virtual cockpit
I was playing around with my 330e live cockpit display the other day. Normally I have adaptive cruise on with the screen to show lane control and distance.
But the other day I switched on the map view and I started to compare map view with my wife's TT. The TT's screen is brighter due to the use of colour but in map view the speed is smaller. The map looks cartoonish and I struggle to understand lane position and roundabout exit. I really like the BMW map view. It's simple and easier to follow. I find it easier to read the road and follow directions. Does anyone else use the map view on their cockpit? |

I dont tend to use it as normally have the active cruise stuff there, but vaguely recall it was just a monochrome rough outline of roads nearby, with pretty much zero detail?

I have to say that I find that the BMW one is utter rubbish, so lacking in detail, that it is nigh on useless - that's the live map bit. To be totally frank, I find the cockpit to be pretty weak as far too cluttered with awful fonts/graphics. I hardly ever look at it TBH, as HUD does all I need.

Agreed. It's like an etch-a-sketch compared to the Audi live cockpit.

Had a Golf R before, and that had a live cockpit, which I guess is either the same or a forerunner of the Audi one (but without the satellite view). Never had the map there (not least as it only showed OEM satnav) and I tended to use Waze

I like the BMW one and it's lack of detail, albeit I use it in the HUD rather than the console. It just gives the shape of the roads without any extraneous and distracting detail, and that's perfect for me. If I need more detail at any point I can just glance at the big screen, but I hardly ever need to.

Definitely prefer the BMW over Audi, the whole point of the map is that it's meant to be simple and easy to read and not lead to sensory overload!
And the introduction of satellite imagery is even more OTT, especially while you're trying to concentrate on driving...

The points about the BMW map being uncluttered are fair ones.

I must have a setting not set correctly then, or we are talking about different things. I was talking about the mini map that sits between the speedo and rev/power meter on the main dash?
On mine, when that's displayed and not the cruise stuff, I just get some vague grey lines that are supposed to resemble nearby roads. That's it, other detail at all. I dont find that remotely useful. And definitely don't have option to display that in the HUD. That only displays anything map like when I have a destination programmed into sat nav. Have no problems with the map in the iDrive screen. Find thats pretty good.

Not really bothered by it as have the big screen on the left for details and the HUD for directions.
Only going by pictures but the Audi screen does look good. Looks like they have made the speedo and rev counter even worse in ID8 as well. https://www.bmwblog.com/2021/03/15/b...inment-system/ What annoys me is not being able to see what gear you are in via HUD when in manual mode. It's not too hard to remember but still would be nice also a proper rev counter. |

Paid a bit more attention to it today. If a route is being used, then I do think its OK and the simplicity is clear. When no route is input, its rubbish.
But having said that, when a route is put in, then HUD is better. So overall, the center dash is useless.
