In theory it should be. My concern with the new ones is two things.
The chip shortage cars are missing some key features imo. I heard some dont have XM, touch screen, HUD, or adaptive suspension. Also, the inability to flash tune a 2021 or newer is a big negative for me. Im sure at some point this will be doable but it might be a a few more years. Im starting to think 2020s might be the gem.

The chip shortage is a main reason I don't wait for an LCI (or at least I'm not planning to). I could use a car sooner as well, but I don't want the crap shoot of wondering what might be deleted.

I think there's also a likelihood that I might be sitting here in a year, still waiting for LCI delivery.

Owned a ‘15 F80 and currently own a ‘17 F31. Picked up a M340 1 month ago.

+Get 80-90% of the performance of the F80.
+Updated tech/cockpit, though I am one of those with the touch screen delete but I am OK with that. Interior is a notch above the F30/80.
+Amazing effciency, it is within 1-2mpg of my F31 (330xi) on my commute
+Headlights are way better as someone mentioned, but wish they could had incorporate foglights too
+Seats feels more supportive
+/- Quieter overall, but it also gives a sense of isolation which is less engaging during spirited driving.
- Arm rest on door is of harder plastic.
-Door drink holder digs into leg
-The cruise buttons on the steering wheels are in a different layout, makes switching between F31 and G20 confusing. But on the stereo side, having the track skip buttons is a big plus.
-While steering feel is better than the F31, dead center feel is worse. What I mean is that it feels very loose and inaccurate around center.

Overall very happy with the M340xi.

I won't go down that rabbit hole. Besides that new dash is terrible so no regrets. The market will remain bad for a while so unless things drastically improve I will never get a deal like I got again.

I'm willing to bet the resale value will hold strong on this car, especially when taking into consideration this chip shortage (which isn't ending anytime soon), attractive aesthetics inside and out, strong performance, relative rarity, eventual phasing out of ICE (including interim period of engines getting downsized to 4-bangers), etc.

Also there are significantly less of these on the road then there was of the F30 335.

Thanks for the opinions. The steering complaints concern me though. While a bit numb, I kind of like the F30 steering, it doesn't compare to my Boxster, but for a daily its not bad, overly numb, or "busy".

I love my m340 and have only owned it for about 2 weeks.
Owned mine for over 2 years. An excellent daily driver.

2020 BMW M340  [0.00]
Hi,

I've had my '20 M340 for over 2 years; it's Xdrive with Adaptive Suspension & other good stuff. Prior to that, had an F30 with 6 speed manual.

While I REALLY missed manual initially, the difference between these cars is quite marked. From the obvious pedal responsiveness to the handling & lack of body roll on corners to the firmer steering (car's start up mode is Adaptive).

In my view, it's a fun car to have as a DD & even does well on the track

I more confused now, I test drove an Alfa Guilia Veloce today. While the power doesn't compare, I think it has a nicer interior, it feels light and was fun on the test drive. The DCT felt great, very smooth in auto but super fast shifts in manual with the aluminum paddles. The AWD felt a bit more front biased than I assume the M340x would. Thing is it's about $150/mo less than an M340 and they're still doing 24mo leases.

The M340 is probably going to be a more reliable car, it is for sure a faster car is a straight line, and it's a better looking car from some angles. I think BMW is probably a bit more substantialas it weight a few hundred lbs more. I'd have a hard time actually moving away from BMW, but the Alfa is a good possible alternative.

Upgraded seats? Dont recall seeing a different seat option on the build and price.

Agreed Tim. I was thinking the same thing looking forward. As ICEs are being phased out and the ones that will become available are 4-bangers with increased electronic turbos to make up for the HP (i.e. Mercedes-AMG going with 4 bangers in the new C43 and C63 AMGs), the B58 engine and its superlative, daily driver-friendly performance will become a rare alternative to what's available in the future car market.

As much as I'm a BMW guy, I'll also say don't give up on that Macan.

I had a intro-year turbo model and loved it. LOVED IT. It started my love of pcars in-general. It was a beautiful machine to drive.

While they don't discount, it was worth every penny for the amount of joy that car brought to me as a daily driver.

There's a pretty big difference with the Turbo model and the rest of the lineup. The standard Macan would be a waste of $$ in my opinion. Even the Macan S is questionable when considering how much they're charging for it and the performance you're getting. It might have been the shit a number of years ago but nowadays, not so sure.

I was looking at the base and S, both fairly nicely equipped. The base was a bit underwhelming, but the S actually felt pretty good, especially in Sport or Sport+. But compared to an M240, or M340 its at least $10k more expensive.

Which begs the question what are you really wanting or looking for? The Macan has virtually no cargo space and it's not exactly an SUV that offers the conveniences a typical "SUV" does. It really comes down to the brand and of course there will always be the crowd that questions whether a Macan (or Cayenne) is really a true Porsche.

So if you're looking for something with real performance, I'd say you have to at least get the "S" model and even then I think its underwhelming if you're cross-shopping with an M240 or M340 which needless to say are completely different vehicles.

This is my 2nd BMW and I like it. I tried the X3M for 6 months and hated it.

The M340i handles great. Acceleration is great. Braking is great. I average 25-26 MPGs which is pretty amazing for the power and awd.

I have standard suspension because that's all that was on lot in 2021. The Adaptive cruise is one of the best I have used. I looked at 3 series in the past and have passed on them (for a Golf R). This redesigned model hit it off for me in the looks and interior.

My only complaint are the electronics are so flaky on this car. Sometimes everything works great. Other times stuff just stops working. I assume this is BMW across the line though.

*Auto trunk not working now. It pops and doesn't open all the way
*Remote start doesn't work every time anymore (this happened when it was new and they reprogrammed something)
*Android auto sometimes won't connect
*Sometimes I walk away and the auto lock doesn't work (stays unlocked)
*Sometimes the auto unlock via handle doesn't work on the rear doors. Super flaky under different conditions. ie: I can open the front door and close it. Go to open the rear and it won't unlock. Or I can open the rear, close it and go to open it again and it won't open.
*Car stays on when you turn it off (I think this is a BMW thing). I keep my car in my warehouse at work. If I turn it off, the radio stays on and connected to my phone. I have to take the keys out. Lock it, open it back up, put the keys inside, walk away.

Some of these are minor things, but all issues I don't have with my other vehicles.

I did notice more issues like some of the ones you mentioned after my newest update. But it is not that big of a deal.
The Android auto is annoying (it was never an issue before the update), a lot of times i had to manually start the AA, instead of auto connect.

But as far as the issue with engine off and radio stays on. You can go into setting and change it to Shut off when you open the door. So all your music should be off the moment you open the door.

The passenger side needs to open too if you have passenger in the car. It is kinda stupid IMO...

Yep, I had this experience as well and it was in fact just a simple adjustment with the settings as you described. I agree that it's stupid regarding the passenger side needing to open. Hey, if I'm getting out of the car, NO MORE MUSIC! I don't care about the passenger.
