Took delivery of my 2021 M340i after 3 months of wait

The minute I parked my car in the garage the check engine light pops up, with only 25 miles on the car lol. I've been cruising under 3500 rpm with absolutely no aggressive driving. I think it's due to the engine not reaching optimal temperature (it's around 40 degrees outside) before shutting off 'cause I've done a few short 5 min drives between places. But I don't wanna take any risk so I will have the dealer run the code tomorrow to see what the problem is.

Overall the car itself was great. I'm very happy with the color choice of going Black Sapphire Metallic with Cognac as it is very subtle yet sleek. Haven't had the chance to experience the full potential of the almighty B58 but the power is definitely there when you need it.

With the 48V system auto start/stop becomes less noticeable and it is very smooth. The power gauge beneath the tachometer is something that takes a while to get used to but I tend to let the gearbox do the shifting in comfort mode so reading revs isn't necessary. If I do want to shift with paddles I'd just go into sport and everything returns to how it looks with the MY20 model. The exhaust is still as loud as the MY20, but I certainly noticed less pops and crackles. Don't know if that's going to change as I put more miles on it but for now I just want to enjoy this as my first car before anything goes wrong again. Hopefully it's nothing to worry about

Found a perfectly safe spot to park for the night and we'll see what the dealer has to say tomorrow.

FINALLY!!! Glad she's finally in your possession, man! Of course you already have a check engine light, though.

I'm sure it's nothing major. You should invest in an OBD2 scanner. I have 2, one BMW specific (similar to this one) and another OBD2 bluetooth adapter that I use in conjunction with the Torque app on an old Android phone I have kept around solely for this reason. That way, I can scan all my own cars myself.

Keep us posted on the issue.

Update: the CEL went off on its own when I start the car today. I think it's nothing major so I'll skip the dealer visit and see if it ever goes back on again. For now, let's go for a drive!

Congrats on the car and even better your dealer didn't sell it out from underneath you. Didn't you say it was listed on their website? Also, thanks for the pictures of Cognac with Matte Oak. I really like that combination but have only seen each part on a car in person.

Haha yes the interior combo is a stunner for sure! I think every dealer does this nowadays as a way of demonstrating their inventory and to falsely attract other customers using cars that have been sold already. As long as your name appears on the order, there's no need to panic. Be proud, 'cause for them your car is something that's worth bragging about

Looks great - but what is up with the new tachometer?

Is that meant to be a rev counter or some kind of power gauge?

Yes. In comfort mode as you can see in the last pic that I've posted, the bottom half of the tachometer has been converted into a power meter indicated by that little battery sign. Tbh it's quite weird as I doubt if anyone would care about the status of their 48V mild hybrid system, not to mention that multiple people on the forum are experiencing problems trying to set it back to tachometer

Yeah, not a fan of that.

I've got used to the backwards gauges but why does it go to 10? The normal tach on a 340i has 8 as the last number.

Good point. I haven't realized that before you mentioned and I'm pretty sure that I'm not driving a GT3 with a 4 liter flat six that could rev up to 9000 rpm so I don't know why it goes all the way till 100

Nice! I agree about the 48V mild hybrid. Personally, I love it. On/off transition is so smooth. And, I don't know what the fuss is about regarding the power meter in comfort mode. Yes, it's different than a tach, but it's not worse. If I needed to measure revs, I'd be in sport mode (which I often am). Power meter shows relevant information, including energy recovery/regenerative braking.

BTW, the reason the power meter goes to 100 is because it's measuring engine load up to 100% of capacity. Load/output and revs are correlated, but not the same thing.

P.S. Go Illini! (I'm not an Illinois guy, but I notice the location)

Ah I see. So its a power meter not a rev counter.

Haha thanks for educating me that the entire thing is a power meter! Go Illini!
