G20/M340 Undercarriage Mid Brace Options - AWE Exhaust Rubbing
I'm tired of my AWE exhaust rubbing on the mid-brace. I've adjusted the exhaust several times, and eventually, it works its way to rubbing on the brace. Rather than take it off, I'd like to get an aftermarket one that dips down a bit. I'd like to find something like the G80 mid-brace for my G20. I had thought about using washers to space down the stock brace as well. Thoughts?

Have you tried getting into contact with AWE? I’d go the route of getting them to resolve the issue as it seems odd their set up would rub against the brace

A lot of guys have rubbing issues with the AWE exhaust even after taking their car to AWE and having it adjusted, or a pipe replaced. I've tried tightening the clap down more as I'm thinking the driver's side pipe rotates enough to cause rubbing.

My gf had the same exhaust installed on pre-lci and lci m340i. She did not have any issues with the pre-lci fitment, but with the lci we simply had the brace permanently removed as the shop said there was no way to get it not to hit.
We have been thinking of getting some washers to give it just a tad bit more space as the way we have the exhaust aligned now barely touches the brace. |

I have a Pontiac G8 GT (and my M340i). With headers and 3” exhaust there’s rubbing on a similar cross brace. A lot of people take the brace off. The rest of us use washers and longer bolls. After 12 years, everything is still good. In other words, do washers and bolts with blue loc-tite.

I bought stainless sleeves and longer bolts at a local Ace Hardware. Before installing them, I adjusted the exhaust again. It's been fine for about 2 months...guess what is starting to rub again? I guess it is time for me to try the new stainless sleeve spacer and longer bolts.

I have the same issue with my 2020 m340i. I installed the AWE exhaust and it was fine for maybe a day. Then the rattling, especially at cold start, started. I have had 2 shops look at it including the dealership during an oil change and the issue is definitely that the drivers side mid pipe is just low enough that it’s rattling against the cross support brace (which is the plain stock brace). I’ve been trying to decide the best way to go about fixing this (though for the cost of the exhaust system, I’m pretty disappointed that there are this many fitment issues). At first I thought I’d just remove the cross brace, but that makes me anxious due to the added sense of security having that brace in place provides. After reading these posts, I’m now thinking about trying the washer and long bolt approach. Could anyone share the number of washers they used and the size of bolts you ended up needing to fit the holes and provide enough distance between the brace and exhaust?

I believe the stock bolts are M8x25 (part# 07119908535)... So, how many millimeters do you need for clearance? I'm sure you can find an actual BMW M8x__ torx bolt that fits your needs.
For instance, here are BMW M8x35 torx bolts: https://www.bimmerworld.com/Engine/G...ount-Bolt.html |

Does anyone know what the bolt specs form the support bracket are (I don't have the parts with me)? I think I need probably no more than 1 cm of clearance. |

This one is much prettier than the Ultra Racing offering... but it's even more expensive because overnight parts from Japan.
