This was my experience and what I did as a workaround. Didn’t wanna invest in BimmerUtility hoping that’ll actually code the setting.

Sounds like only Android users are able to code this off for now using Bimmercode on G20. Folks on this thread reporting success are Android users.

I may try to put this to the test. I’ll report back if I’m able to.

Not sure if this is known information already, but Bimmercode released desktop applications for Windows and macOS (Intel and Apple silicon). Licenses don’t transfer, but I intend to try coding via desktop to see if AS/S actually codes.

I got an update for Bimmercode on iOS. Perhaps someone can update and test. I’m still on 03/2022 and I don’t plan on updating. Someone on 03/2023 having this issue could probably test with the updated iOS version.

Latest Bimmercode data update won't code ASS on 03/2023.67

I updated Bimmercode this morning and updated my 20 M340i to 03/2023.67 today as well. I have the ASS button in my car. And I can verify that this latest version of Bimmercode DOESN'T defeat either ASS permanently, or to remember last setting. The options are there and you can set them the same way as earlier versions of BMW software, that did allow the coding of ASS, but it has no effect. ASS is always on, but I can turn it off with the button (fortunately I have the button).

Unfortunately Bimmercode Doesn't Have a Fix Yet

As I think others have reported, Bimmercode is aware of this situation and doesn't have a fix for it. I emailed them yesterday and I received an extensive reply overnight. But yes, they are aware of it and don't have guidance on when they might be able to overcome this current limitation/barrier.

I don't really understand why this change was made, nor why the later cars don't even have the ASS defeat button in the US. Actually, that is kind of a rhetorical statement as I am sure it is related to some misguided idiotic law/regulation that exists in the US regarding this. I am all for fuel efficiency and minimizing the environmental impact of our passion for cars, but I absolutely hate ASS and the widely adopted acronym pretty much sums up how I feel about it!! Sorry, my rant for the day.

Hopefully Bimmercode can come through with an elegant solution for this like what existed until the latest firmware. Having more control over ASS is the only reason I bought Bimmercode in the first place, a fact that I told them in my email inquiry. Failing this, hopefully the great BMW braintrust in our community can come up with another solution utilizing coding. Especially since all the later cars dont have the ASS shutoff button. I am aware of the Sport Mode options, but that is certainly a less elegant, but still effective solution.

Done, with my rant!

It’s an irony for Bimmercode to say they have no fix — when some Android users have reported success using the same app. Perhaps they are having some challenges getting this fixed on iOS?

After updating to 3/23 software ASS remains active in comfort and eco mode no matter how I mess with the settings in Bimmercode. My suggestion is the same as Bc2005 as a workaround:

Code to startup in Sport Individual (or any Sport mode) and ASS will be defaulted to off for some reason.

It's really annoying, because I like to use comfort or eco on the highway since they are quieter and more comfortable (and perhaps marginally more efficient). Now when I get off the highway I run the risk of dying at the next intersection I pull up to from NYC Metro Road Rage as the person behind me waits for the car to turn back on.

PaulB - I didn't know there ever was a ASS button in the car, that's wild!

I understand that you don't want to have the engine turned off, but if your 2022 have the milld hybrid system I don't think any body has to wait for you to pull off. There is certainly nothing to wait for when pulling away in my M440i MHEV.

(In warm weather I change sometime from my "Adaptive", start up default, to Sport Individual to keep the AC running, but it makes no difference for the immediate response I get when pulling off.)

On software 07/2023.35
I coded it with bimmercode Auto start at off but i didn't get it first try, I still managed to have it to work, but it seemed different from other software version.

When you almost stop, now the strike through icon shows it's at off.

Yes, the MY 2020 and earlier BMWs had a button you could press to disable ASS in any drive mode. Prior to the G20 it would remember that you disabled it so once it was off, it was off, unless you enabled it with the button. Prior to the 03/2023.67 update, that’s exactly the way my car behaved, just like the good old days. I have attached a picture of the magic button that my car thankfully has.

I coded start in Sport Individual, and set all my individual settings to Comfort. Not a terrible workaround.

That is interesting news. I have been using BimmerCode in the past but would love additional details about using Bimmer Utility to code ASS. I’m not a coding expert at all and the only thing I use coding for is to disable ASS. Any details such as platform (IOS, Android, PC) adapter and the actual coding process would be greatly appreciated and helpful. I don’t want to be messing around in my car’s computers and actually mess things up. Thanks.

Not sure if this is relevant or not but it doesn’t appear that BimmerCode IOS updates via the usual method with the App Store app. You can however update within the actual BimmerCode app. Settings / Check For Update.

I haven’t noticed that but on iOS you get prompted to update after you connect with the car — if there’s an update available. In any case some folks are still having issues on latest iOS version.

And that I haven't noticed because I always make sure to update all before coding.

I mentioned it only because all my Apps were updated via the usual process but then noticed there was one available for Bimmercode within the app.
