Had to add 1 liter after a two day track event. After last oil change by BMW did a track day and did not consume any oil :
Only difference between first and last even was temperature, very very hot on the two day event.

Did you top up with BMW longlife or something like a Shell oil? Does it actually make a difference so long as viscosity meets recommendations?

Bit late to the party but my car is 16 months old and has covered 7k miles. I've had it from new, followed the running-in instructions and have just done an oil level check via the i-drive which showed the level to be at the Max mark. So no evidence of any oil consumption at all, never mind excessive oil consumption!

Little late i know, sue me.
I've got a M340i. 1 Litre per 800 miles or so is perfectly normally if you're driving it how an M car should be driven. My worrying thing right now is i've always topped 1 litre and that's gone from Minimum to Maximum. Today it's telling me to add 2 litres. WTF? But yeah. I normally do 1 litre per 1000 / 2000 miles or so. |

As a potential M340i buyer this is a little concerning. I've never had a car that's used oil between services and that includes several proper ///M cars.
I'm aware the 2021 Supra's (with the B58 engine) have the same issue, but earlier cars are ok. Is it the same with the M340i? |

Mine was delivered in Sept, I don't think I was super strict with the run in but certainly no launches etc until recommended - it's done just under 4k now checked oil last night still up at max, so not an issue for me!

So after putting a litre in at 11.5k, I'm now 4k further on and all seems OK. No idea if oil was added before I bought the car with 8.5k on the clock,

Okay, so hopefully I can provide some insight about my M340i.
I do live in the U.K. and I have owned the car for a year and a half now. I will be honest, I did not follow the break in period at all, which I am annoyed about now but was just so excited when I received the car. I do drive heavy on the throttle when the car has reached operating temperature very often. The car is almost at 18,000 miles. I've had my cars oil changed once or twice at BMW (it was atleast once) and I have also filled up a total of 4 litres myself with Castrol Oil (at two different occasions, 2 litres per fill). So as you can see I've either had oil replaced or topped up around 4 times. Which is more than other people, but like I said I do drive heavy on the throttle. Also, in regards to you saying that you have been on the 5 series forum where they do not have this issue with the B58 can be for another reason. The reason why this could be is because the G20 M340i has the B58 Gen 2 engine (B58TU), where the 5 series may have the Gen 1 (I'm not sure). The Gen 2 consumes more fuel in general for a few reasons compared to Gen 1, this could be the reason why. I also know this because my brother has a 440i (67 Plate). He has owned the car for 2-3 years and has not done an oil change (unless down at service) and I have done it around 4 times. That is my insight, hope it helps. I'm also linking a video on where I learnt the differences between the B58 Gen 1 and B58 Gen 2 to help others get a better understanding of their cars and how it compares to older models with the B58 Gen 1. |

Watch the video I have just posted on this forum, it talks about the B58. Even though the Supra has a B58 variant, many of the same things should apply. |

Only dropped one notch down from max in the last 5k. And to be fair I知 not sure it was on max when I picked it up at 9k.
Drive it with mechanical sympathy as appropriate although it gets a very spirited drive across country once a week in sport plus |

The assumption we make is that idrive (and oil level sensor) is accurate. Even the folks indicating they致e never had to top off, I知 betting more than a few were missing oil but idrive never told them. I知 based in Canada, had oil changed last November. About 6500 KMs (4000 miles) later or 3 months, idrive indicated I need to add 2 quarts (2L). I had the dealer drain all the oil a month later (1500 KMs or 950 miles since the top off) and measure. 2L were missing. I ran idrive before taking it in and it was at max. So 4L in about 8000 KMs (5000 miles) or 4 months since the oil change. And idrive telling me next oil service is in 8000 KMs (I知 half way there).
Dealer instructed me to bring in if it asks for more oil before the service minder and they will take it to BMW Canada. The other thing I know is I知 tracking my engine oil pressure and it痴 hitting 110 psi, outside the 85 psi max we should expect. My first BMW, love the car, but this oil consumption makes no sense. |
