I often wonder the same thing. I've seen a few videos of small consumer electronics catching fire and if you remember a few years back airlines were banning certain celll phones because of fire risks.

Is it just that the fires from a cell phone are less dramatic because of their smaller size or do they have the battery tech/construction down better so there is less risk of fires.

I'll never own an EV because I just don't see the challenges and cost being worth the investment and I know many others feel the same, but I'm willing to bet most don't give a second thougth to carrying a cell phone or tablet and don't worry about them burning.

EBikes are the worst of all, the conference of cheap design, poor quality control, unsophisticated electronics for charging and not too bright ownership.

Do you think the banning and dumping of millions of ebikes has an effect on the environment? Maybe they can melt them down in the coal fired furnaces they used to build them?

Yes..the galaxy note explosion and the ban from aircrafts and them being pulled off sale.
Maybe the economic losses spurred them in to invest in safer quality control etc.
No mobile phone users stick up for their phones though if there is a risk of fire I guess...
Again I have an electric drill driver and electric strimmer digital camera etc . Never thought twice about plugging the lithium batteries in when recharging at home.

Environment no doubt suffers..it has since disposable short lived consumer products were shipped from halfway across the world replacing brands which were costlier but lasted decades. My granddad used to say buy cheap buy twice and he'd say 'see I was right' if he was around

I couldn't imagine what happen when a underground parking lot parked with all the EV. Just one EV on fire, the whole parking lot will become hell. Mind you, 99% of fire sprinkler system in Canada are using water for firefighting. If you are unluck and got stuck in that situation, you betting just kiss you ass and say goodbye.

We will probably see millions of people die from these. I could see human civilization itself collapse.

I do worry about them. At least for the phone, I can get rid of it very easy. If I am sitting in a burn EV or living in an apartment full of EV, this will be the end of my life.

We will probably have to decentralize housing as apartments and condos will be genocide factories of flames.

The Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency this year found that there were 3.8 fires per 100,000 electric or hybrid cars in 2022, compared with 68 fires per 100,000 cars when taking all fuel types into account. However, the latter figures include arson, making comparisons tricky.

Australia’s Department of Defence funded EV FireSafe to look into the question. It found there was a 0.0012% chance of a passenger electric vehicle battery catching fire, compared with a 0.1% chance for internal combustion engine cars.

Most ICE fires are extinguished with a small hand held B:C fire extinguisher. Which is less than the 5,000 gallons plus most EV fires take to control, NOT extinguish.

That is exactly the reason I am against EV. The whole EV technology are too new and too fresh. There are so many unknown and questions someone need to answer them first. I don't like to ask or force by the government to be a lab rat.

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.”

83 times more likely to have an ICE catch fire in Sweden with the number being more realistic than the Australian number since they have a much higher ratio of EV to ICE.

How much water does it take to put out an ICE fire? Could you put out 83 ICE fires with the water it takes to put out one EV fire? Probably not.

You've gotta park one of those in your garage with your family. For every time that EV would kill you, you'd have already died 83 times with an ICE.

A little perspective is all. Ya'll are just so far gone.

How many ICE fires can you put out with 36,000 Gallons of Water?

Alabama Firefighters Forced to Close Interstate, Pour 36,000 Gallons of Water Into Burning EV to Put It Out
car accident on Christmas Day caused a fire that required four tankers, over 10 rescue organizations and 36,000 of gallons of water to put out.

The catch? Not a single drop of gasoline was involved.
Thanks to a process known as "thermal runaway," which causes lithium ion batteries to reach incredible temperatures, 36,000 gallons were needed to put the fire out.

A normal fire in an internal-combustion car only takes 500 gallons.

Cooter and T-bone had nothing to do on a Saturday night anyways but to drain the town’s aquifer in putting out that fire.
