BMW EV production is apparently on hold? or shutting down maybe with cancelled battery orders as it waits for new gen Chinese batteries, yup you heard that right, throwing a dice thinking that they will be quicker to charge and last longer with no time date as to when they will be available and the stringent safety processes they have to go through to be acceptable for the euro market.

BMW i3 Battery Replacement Cost in 2023 – All Details Covered
Here are the typical price ranges: Full Battery Replacement – $5,000 to $7,000+ – The out-of-pocket cost for a brand new replacement i3 battery pack ranges from about $5,000 on the low end to over $7,000+ depending on the model year and specific battery. Labor costs will also need to be added. Refurbished Battery – $3,000 to $5,000 – Opting for a professionally refurbished and certified pre-owned BMW i3 battery can save thousands compared to new. Expect to pay $3,000 to $5,000 for a refurbished option. Battery Module Replacement – $500 to $1,000 – In some cases, only one or two battery modules may need replacement instead of the entire pack. Module repair costs are much lower, typically between $500 to $1,000 including parts and labor. Model Year – Later model year BMW i3’s typically have larger battery capacities than earlier years. The cost difference between replacing a 2015 battery versus a 2019 can be $1,000+. https://bmwinsights.com/bmw-i3-batte...lacement-cost/ I'm thinking BMW got the memo? Still any one buying a used EV has questionable intelligence. Nothing like a car payment and a $7000.00 unexpected repair bill. |

My wife picked out an EV6 about 4 weeks ago and she told me yesterday it's her most favorite car she's had. I was the one who pushed her into test driving it, as an EV would fit her low mileage driving habits well, and the incentives were really good in June.
She likes that's its quiet, smooth acceleration, it's fast when she needs it, and that it keeps her away from gas stations. She has a bad habit of going in and buying stuff when she stops for gas. There are various other features she really likes, but they're attributed to going up a price point from her last vehicle and not that it's an EV. I bought her a 32A charger, installed the plug myself, and all of it cost about $500. The 8/3 wire was $200 of that. |

I know you're all shocked!
Biofuel’s Dirty Secret: Toxic Chemicals Threatening Communities Under the Name of Green The study was produced by the Environmental Integrity Project, a nonprofit based in Washington, D.C. It finds that the total quantity of air pollutants released by the nation’s biofuel refineries adds up to 12.9 million pounds annually, close to the 14.5 million pounds emitted by traditional oil refineries. One of the emitted pollutants is formaldehyde, a toxic compound used, among other things, to prevent corpses from decaying. It’s also a widely recognized carcinogen, especially when emitted in gaseous form. The nation’s biofuel plants reported more than 235,000 pounds of formaldehyde emissions in 2022, more than three times the amount released by petroleum refineries. Minnesota’s ethanol refineries also produced the equivalent of 2 million metric tons of carbon dioxide, and nearly 3 million tons of other regulated air pollutants including lead, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and particulate matter. The report faults the EPA for subjecting ethanol plants to less stringent emission standards than regular oil refineries. The authors also call on policymakers to eliminate the mandates and subsidies for ethanol production that prop up the industry. https://www.bluestemprairie.com/blue...udy-finds.html |

The most common type of EV battery is a growing source of 'forever chemical' pollution, scientists say
July 8, 2024 Scientists have uncovered a new source of hazardous "forever chemical" pollution: the rechargeable lithium-ion batteries found in most electric vehicles. Some lithium-ion battery technologies use a class of PFAS chemicals, or per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances, that helps make batteries less flammable and conduct electricity. Scientists found high levels of these PFAS in air, water, snow, soil, and sediment samples near plants that make those chemicals in the US, Belgium, and France, according to a peer-reviewed study in the journal Nature Communications. PFAS are known as "forever chemicals" because they build up quickly in the environment, people, and animals and don't break down for thousands of years. They've been linked to a host of health conditions, including liver damage, high cholesterol, low birth weights, and chronic kidney disease. The study said only about 5% of lithium-ion batteries are recycled, and by 2040, there could be some 8 million tons of lithium-ion battery waste. 3M has manufactured PFAS for decades and last year agreed to a $10 billion settlement with US cities and towns over their claims that the company contaminated drinking water with forever chemicals. 3M said it will exit all PFAS manufacturing by the end of 2025. The company's settlement followed another agreement by Chemours, DuPont and Corteva to pay $1.19 billion to help resolve thousands of lawsuits. https://www.yahoo.com/news/singapore...002443893.html The more we save the planet the more we are killing the inhabitants of the planet! I leave you to consider if this is intentional or just stupidity. |

Another day another toasty EV
Tesla bursts into flames at EV charging station in Upper Allen July 10th 2024 CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A call for a car fire in Upper Allen turned out to be a much more difficult blaze to put out, after officials determined the fire happened at an EV station. The fire happened at the Upper Allen Sheetz at around 5:50 p.m. Monday night, according to Upper Allen Fire Department. When they arrived on scene, fire crews started battling the flames and later were able to douse the car's battery after most of the fire was put out. VW Weighs First-Ever Car Plant Closing in Europe to Cut Costs
Jul 10, 2024 Volkswagen AG will potentially shutter an Audi electric-vehicle factory in Belgium to save costs, in what would be a watershed moment for Europe’s biggest carmaker. Carmakers have been grappling with poor EV sales, prompting a range of manufacturers including Mercedes-Benz Group AG to rethink plans. Key regions including Germany, Europe’s biggest auto market, have removed or cut incentives for EVs, raising the pressure on incumbents with new competitors like China’s BYD Co. moving in on their turf. Volkswagen’s strong union presence has complicated the company’s past restructuring efforts. Audi’s management has been in discussions with the Belgian government about the future of its Brussels factory, which only makes the luxury Q8 e-tron model and derivatives. Closing it down is only one of several restructuring options, Volkswagen said. Audi’s site near Brussels employs some 3,000 people and has been making the Q8 e-tron since 2022. The Deutsche Bank analysts estimated that severance packages alone would amount to a “sizable” triple-digit-million-euro amount. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/vw-cu...060128854.html If the EU fails to keep CCP funded Chinese car companies from dumping their product in the EU, this will not be the first plant closing and not the first pink slips. |

Dumb and Dumber
BYD dodges EU tariffs with $1 billion factory deal in Turkey To counteract what the European Commission sees as unfair competition supported by China, Brussels has imposed additional duties on numerous products, reducing the profitability of their purchase. This is the case, for example, with electric cars (more on this later). The Chinese, targeted by these additional tariffs, bypassed the charges by producing cars locally. That’s why one electric car factory is being built in Hungary (with another one planned), and soon also in Turkey. The "Financial Times" reports that Turkey is part of the EU customs union, meaning vehicles can be exported to the community without additional duties. The newspaper adds that the factory will be able to produce 150,000 vehicles annually and is planned to start operations by the end of 2026. The plant will create about 5,000 jobs. https://www.msn.com/en-us/autos/news...c7fdcaaf&ei=12 Just reminding you that this week is still slap a politician week. |
