BIMMERPOST

A YouTube short showing a gorgeous looking black and white M340i headlight animation

Is this new for the LCI or was already like this on the 2022 models or earlier? Really looking forward for reviews of the LCI to start coming out. Have mine on order.

Could this be a coding thing?
I mean the headlights probably use the same ECUs as the PreLCI even though they‘re Matrix instead of Laser.

The laser light option on pre-LCI has the anti-dazzle feature as well and is able to selectively block light or focus light on certain objects, such as animals/obstructions in the road, cars, etc.

I noticed the animation on the bmw intro video for the LCI. It was pre production so wasn't sure if it would be on the production models. So glad it is. Looks very cool. This isn't on the pre LCI

But the LCI animation isn't using the headlamps, but instead uses the DRL. The LCI DRL are completely different so I wouldn't be optimistic that a pre-LCI can code this to happen.

Completely different? They´re just upside down and still two DRLs per side :-)
They both have multiple LED units for the normal headlights while the PreLCI has a Laser unit under the normal headlights.
I just need a G20 LCI with Matrix LED to compare the coding to my G21 PreLCI with Laser headlights.

Maybe JayPichardo can share the G20 LCI headlight specs aswell.

Forgive my ignorance - what is the point of the animation? Is this for daytime driving? Find that a bit of an odd choice for driving but looks cool.

I think it is the start up light show kind of like the Mercedes’ models?

Yeah it's just when you start up the car / unlock it (or walk up to it with certain models) .

The Audi RS3 has the coolest one. On the driver's side in addition to showing checkered flags, it spells out R S 3. I love these kind of cool details that make the car feel special, not sure who hurt the McDonald's parking lot commenter in this thread.

Ah! That makes sense. Haven't seen these before. Thanks.

Not necessarily a feature I'd want on my car personally; but fun to see it on other cars.

This. 100%.

It's cheap looking and gimmicky.

Why not just mount a KITT red LED on your front grill while you're at it.

Interesting this car appears to have some MPE parts on it IE front lip and side skirts. I have not see these on any of the LCI to date.

That animation is pretty badass. Looks classy and modern at the same time. Much better than Audi's.

Sadly bmw lags behind on a lot of the technology and gimmicky stuff like this lol audi and merc arguably have significantly better headlights and have had cool animations for a while.

This definitely isn’t a code-able feature.

Your current lights will use a light guide optic system to reflect 4x4 cluster square of leds. See it as a bendy straw that reflects the light coming in from one end.

The way these work is by using similar tech to addressable leds (digital leds) which requires them being placed behind the DRL shapes.. I say this confidentially as it’s exactly what I did to my F32 headlights 😁

I know there are no engine changes. What chassis changes have been done?
