M340 xDrive summer tire in winter?

Just bought my M340 xdrive last week. Really enjoy driving it. I got 20' wheel with summer tire on. Just be curious those of you who has summer tire and live in cold weather place. How do you treat your car in winter, do you get another set of Wheel+Tire? or do you swap between summer and winter tire twice a year?I was worry about my rim gets damage by swapping the tire that often(screw up by technician who changing the tire ).Name: 20190806_072721.jpg

In the Netherlands a lot of people swap tires and wheels twice a year. If done properly I doubt this should cause any damage or problems.

Where in US are you? For how many days your area has snow on the ground?
You can drive a car with summer tires on dry and wet roads even when temperatures get below freezing but not on snow. Snow and ice are no-no for summer tires.

Dedicated winter wheels/ tires set is the most practical option if the seasons require winter tires.

Best is to have a second set of wheels with winter tires . One should keep in mind that winter tires are not for snow only , their rubber is "softer" and it brings much better adherence in cold conditions. Comparative braking distance values are impressive. It's the reason why it is mandatory in many european countries to be equipped for winter. The down side is that as soon as temperature is above 15°C , you will burn them quickly.

You don't really want summer tires even in the wet in winter... the compound hardens as the temp approaches and passes freezing...

Second set of tires and rims for winter or running all seasons year round are the safer choices

Get a set of 19” wheels and some winter tires. Don’t risk summer tires when the temp drops.

The first car I owned with summer, high-performance tires was a Nissan 370Z. Yokohama Advan's of some sort. Great car, great tires in spring, summer, and fall. That first winter, I thought, "pfffft, I know how to drive, I'll be fine." Cold pavement was amusing as it was easy to sort of drift around every corner. Stopping wasn't horrible, but ABS would clearly kick in pretty easily. I was cautious, and understood the risks, but I managed.

Then it snowed.

At work that morning, 3-4 inches of slushy midwestern snow fell. I lived less than a mile from work. I couldn't get home. Literally, the car drove like it was on ball bearings. I had almost no traction. Any sort of incline was hopeless. Traction control was utterly useless. I got stuck in two intersections, blocking traffic. Police helped push me out the second time. That was fun. After 45 minutes of puttering around my town trying to find a route where I didn't get stuck, I parked the car back at work and walked home. I managed to nurse it home the following day after the city had salted, sanded, and plowed.

Granted, a RWD 370Z is a little different than an AWD M340i, but I honestly don't think AWD would have helped much on those tires. They definitely wouldn't have helped with stopping.

Don't be like me. Your M340i deserves good winter rubber. If not real winter tires, at least put all-seasons on it. Ideally, get a second set of wheels. But even if you don't do that, possibly paying some wheel repair guy $50 to remove some nick or scratch caused by the remounting tires is much less of an ordeal than fixing your car after you've wrapped it around a telephone pole because you couldn't stop on an icy road.

Good luck! FWIW, I'm in the same boat with my RWD M340i on PS4S's. Will be ordering some winter wheels & tires very soon.

Tire Rack lists the 2020 M340i/M340i xdrive on their list and has wheels available.

Here's a quick one, 19" wheels with runflat winter tires and tpms sensors is about $1900.00

Did you get wheels port installed? It would have been nice to order car and purchase wheels as accessories. You could of had your second set for winter.
Also, more pictures please. Dont tease with a couple of shots and no 360 ot interior pics.😁

I got all-season tires and be done with. I live on the east coast and we have snow....never bought a snow tire, just made sure my all season where in very good condition and since the car is all wheel....i think am ok.

Personally don't want to deal with the hassle of trying to sell my after market wheels when am done with the car....like am dealing with presently...bought a 19' for my car i traded for this; dealing with buyers is a pain.

Summer tires like PS4S or cup2 are suicide in winter. Just buy another set of proper winter tires and wheel combo. Swap them twice a yr either by yourself (like me) or pay tire shop to do it. Never cut cost on wheels and tires. It costs your life.
