Turned out pretty darn good.

Lot's of people don't want to take this on, but I take my best camera and put together a vanity book for each major trip. My wife loves it, as do all my travel companions. Strangely, no one else takes ANY pictures, they just say, "I'll wait on the book."

I find it relaxing and increases my enjoyment of the places that we visit. I know that others don't have that positive vibe, but it's worth a try, I think.

I tend to haul a lot of gear as well. My best shot of Bamburgh Castle was taken with my 5D MkII and 70-200 f2.8. Not the lightest rig, for sure. But some of these places I may never see again. I want to capture them. That said, the Sony XT series cameras have me thinking about the best of both worlds. Light gear and awesome images.

A great shot of Bamburgh Castle in nice light Mark. Did you get out to Lindisfarne (Holy Island) when you were in the area ?

My Fuji XT kit is my travel outfit now, versatile and with excellent results, but most of all . . a lot lighter !

I wanted to sneak a post in here to nab count 10,000. Also to say happy new year and to share one of the most viewed photos from 2016 for me, when photography all began.

Richardson Position by Shane

I hope everyone has a wonderful 2017, (and isn't too hung over).

Cheers,

Shane

Super shot in wonderful light.

Thinking of the result, makes my load seem lighter. I guess all the miles that I walk with two bodies, one with a 500mm, makes a full-frame Canon with a 24-105mm seem like a light load.

Maybe I'll get a full-frame mirrorless some day, but it'll need to accept my EF lenses.

Neat shot, Shane. I was trying to find the bird in that nest when I finally realized what I was looking at. Was that 10,000 on that camera, or here at ZPost? Either way, congrats.

Happy New Year.

I haven't gone that crazy with the DSLR yet lol, I'm around the 4 or 5 thousand mark if I remember right (I refrain from going full burst quite a bit lol even though the option literally has no impact 90% of the time). Just on ZPOST, and I realize now that's only on the actual ticker, not the post count because deleted and spam posts affect it here I believe.

Yeah no birds on that trip, that was before the 100-400 so I was pretty in close. I was trying to show my junior snipers at the time how they could improve their positions and camouflage, and wound up with a pretty stellar stalk shot. I think it's still my most proud image, I don't think I had shared it here yet.

If it's not in the training manual, it belongs there.

Caught this on the way home from the wildlife refuge yesterday. It framed so perfectly with the silos in the background i had to pull over and get the shot.

A fabulous shot Ed, and it works so well in mono !

Are all those Dash 9s (if that's what they are, or maybe SD40s) really needed to haul the train, or is it a way of getting the locos back to where they're needed next ?

Looks like the newer GE ES engines and they were just moving them. Around here they would just pick up needed power before crossing the mountains, it is nice and flat here.

As Kevin said, its a power move. You can't really see it in this shot, but the last 2 units in the consist are older EMD 4 axle GP units, used in yard and local service, probably heading to the shops at Bakersfield. The lead unit is a GE ES44DC. BNSF doesn't send much EMD power out this way for mainline service these days.

So is that train shot, Ed.
