Yup. BMW and Merc have gone from both ORVMs being auto dimming to only driver’s side. Audi is still sticking to both ORVMs being auto dimming.

Mercedes has had the driver side auto-dim only for the longest time on the C-Class. BMW started doing thins with the F3x LCI if I'm not mistaken. I *think* both sides dim on the E and the S.

My current S5 does have auto dim on both sides.

Whatever the reason, it's f***ing annoying!

Here's something I noticed, slightly OCD, but in right hand drive models, the welcome image has the radio controls in the wrong layout! Where does that volume knob go on LHD models, is it on the right?

No, it's the same spot on both I believe. I think they just mirrored the image and didn't think about it. Design oversight on the image.

Interesting! I would have thought that the volume knob would be on the side closest to the passenger (since the driver has the steering wheel control), but there you go... it's the same!

More cost effective to not have to redesign another deck with the volume knob in a different spot.

I think they just mirrored the LHD dash image to get the RHD dash image on the idrive and didn’t pay attention to the radio knob in the pic.

Seems like a useful gadget, but in Europe at least, it is completely unreliable at reading the correct speed limit. I'd say on an average two hour journey in my G05 X5, it gets it wrong 5-10 times, which is far too high to ever use it. For example, you'll be cruising along the motorway, and on an adjacent side road it will pick up a "50km/h" limit and display it in the instrument display. If it was set to obey the speed limit it would suddenly start slowing down from 120km/h.

This is why all this talk of self-driving cars makes me laugh. The technology NOW doesn't even work!

Had the same issues in the U.K. Definitely not reliable enough to use.

Yeah, my X5 is actually UK registered (Brit living in Holland with a flat in Surrey), and I've experienced it in the UK, and on the continent.

One thing I do like, however; I have my speedo configured in km/h (that's just what I'm used to using now), and when in the UK it takes the mph speed on the UK road signs and converts it into km/h in my instrument display. The Audis I've driven don't do that, so it says "60" in the display whether it's km/h or mph.

Yep... also when the speed limit suddenly shows as lower than actual it brakes and is quite dramatic when you have it set to adjust to speed limits automatically.

They need to get the basic stuff correct first before moving on to the more advanced self-driving. My X5 has the ability to automatically adjust the cruise control to the speed limit picked up by the camera, yet it's nowhere near reliable enough to be on production models, yet there it is. How it's legal, I do not know.

I have noticed that the wheels (791 bi colour 19 inch) are much easier to clean than my previous F30. Perhaps, its because they have more dark surfaces. The spoke gaps facilitate easier cleaning. Also, feel that they stay cleaner between washes and collect less brake dust.
