Caution on 245/35/20 front tires
Today I just installed my new HRE FF21 wheels with Continental ExtremeContact Sport 02 tires. Looks amazing! However I’m running into a little problem. My front driver side tire 245/35/20 has a slight rub on the lower support mount on the strut. This mount sits right above the tire. The tire is about 1mm too tall. I was surprised by this because a lot of people on this forum are running this size tire on a 20x9 wheel et25 without any problems. My right front tire is tight but fine. Not sure what to do at this point. The easy fix is to go with 235/35/20 front tires but I really was hoping for the 245 front. Im running the 285/30/20 in the rear with no problem. Anyone have any recommendations other than buy new tires?

Is the swivel bearing (steering knuckle) on the left-side sitting higher on the strut when compared to the right-side?
If so, try lowering the left swivel bearing to match that of the right-side. This adjustment may give you the clearance you need. You may wish to consider checking/adjusting your wheel alignment, depending on how much you lower the swivel bearing.

Thank you for sharing. Got it now. The good news is my shop was able to make a small adjustment to the lower strut mount and it fixed the problem. Just needed to move it 1-2mm. All good. Thanks for everyone’s input.

Kind of a crappy thread title when the fix had nothing to do with the tires.

It had everything to do with the tires. They are too tall and rubbed against the strut mount! I wanted to make sure other considering a 245 front that they should expect the same problem. The shop had to alter the strut mount to accommodate the tires.

. What tire are you running? Mine looks the same but the drivers side was the one rubbing. As you can see there is a very tight clearance. I was probably just 1mm off. Not sure what the shop did to fix it. They said they made an adjustment to the lower mount.

I wonder if this has to do with the Adaptive Suspension? Do you have the Adaptive M suspension? I was going to pull the trigger on 245/40/19, on factory 19x8 rims since others had said they'd work, but after further research it seems cars with the Adap sus have the same issue you describe.....and only on driver side. Did shop just bend the spring perch up enough to clear?

Just wanted to let you know you weren't a one off. Funny how it was the same side. I have a 2021 with the adaptive suspension. Update: I used a strut spreader tool and dropped the left knuckle down 2mm to match the right side. No more rubbing issues. Thanks larrylam646 for the suggestion.
