I want this but I'm very nervous about the cold starts (don't care how loud it is any other time). I really don't want to piss off my neighbors...it's a fairly quiet street (I sometimes feel like cold starts stock are quite loud - not for me but maybe them?).

LOL I wish I didn't care, but my street has a lot of nice families with young families (myself included). I've had loud(ish) exhausts on previous vehicles but if this is VERY loud on cold starts, I may have to pass

Despite my neighbors probably hating me in a week or so, I bought the M Performance Exhaust! Getting it installed in about a week. Can't wait! I really hope it's not too loud or more important to me, that it doesn't drone (I watched one YouTube video where the guy says it's awesome but it does have some drone around 70mph). Has anyone else experienced drone?

I know that...just saying what the dude from the video said. I'm assuming he meant cruising on the highway at 70mph (probably around 3k rpm) it drones a bit. I just wanted to see if any other owners noticed the same.
I've had exhausts that drone (Tanabe quad exhaust on my IS350 sounded great but droned pretty bad at cruising highway speed/rpm). I could deal with it but would be interested to know if an M Performance developed exhaust would have tuned that out.

so i just got off the phone with Rallye BMW, one of the largest bmw dealerships in America and i asked about the m performance exhaust and they told me there was no higher performing exhaust that they make/sell for the m340. the other option he gave me was to install a dinan midpipe which wouldn’t void the warranty and makes the car sound better. does anyone know why he said they don’t make a performance exhaust? and if the dinan midpipe is worth the purchase?

quiet MPE
Midway through my drive, my MPE had an extremely loud pop on a downshift and then after that got quiet. Almost as quiet as stock exhaust w/ sport+.
Anyone else experience this? I almost think one of the valves closed up somehow. I might get it checked out if it doesn't fix itself in the next few days. |

There's only one valve for the MPE (passenger side exhaust tip). Put it Sport+ the next time you drive home. Once parked, leave it running in sport+ and go back and look in the passenger exhaust tip (flashlight might be needed). You should see the valve right away and be able to tell if it's open or closed.

I'm surprised my other video didn't get posted here, but not too long ago I made a new video on My MPE, here it is for everyone. Listen till the end, mic quality is a bit better (headphones recommend)

Got the M Performance Exhaust installed today and wow there is no doubting that this is different from the stock M340i exhaust. Everyone says that videos don't do it justice and that's very true. Cold starts (even warm starts) are really loud! It settles down after a minute or two. Even starting in comfort is super loud...but a good loud (maybe not to my neighbors but meh). Driving in comfort you can still tell that there's something different from the stock exhaust but it's not as noticeable. Sport is much louder and definitely more pops and bangs compared to stock. At this point you absolutely know you a driving a car with an upgraded exhaust. Now put it in Sport Plus and geez! The grunts on fast up shifts, the amount of pops, bangs, and the odd really loud shotgun sounding gunshot is pretty crazy. The down shifts are filled with deep burbles and pops as well. Even as you are creeping along to a stop at a light it burbles and pops all the way until you stop regardless of how smooth and slow you pull up to a light (can be a little embarrassing if you aren't used to aftermarket exhausts).
I freaking love it! I will say however, a lot of people say this is how the M340i should have come from the factory...I gotta disagree on that. It's very aggressive and would most likely turn off half the buyers of this car (ones that aren't on here lol). But for many of enthusiasts, it's a brilliant upgrade. 10 out of 10.

I second Burrcold's write up but haven't been able to give as good a description bc mine was port installed and never knew the difference. My pre-order test drive was too long ago to remember for a good comparo.
