Sensor vs Front Plate

I notice that our new m340i, with all the driver assistance features, has some sort of sensor front and center just below the grill. We don't have our license plates yet, but it looks like a US-style front license plate might cover the sensor.

Can anyone who has front plates an a car with a sensor in that location comment on whether a front license plate on the OEM bracket interferes with sensor operation?
