G20 M Sport steering wheel leather quality?

I test drove one last night. Feel like the steering wheel is harder leather than my f32 m sport wheel. Feel like mine is merino leather feel and g20 m340 is Dakota leather . Is it just the demo car?

I don't think the steering wheel cover in my M340 is leather at all.

It's probably more the padding under the leather that contributes to how hard it feels. The leather is stretched tightly across so it can only give as much as the padding underneath it allows. It's not like seat leather that has thick foam underneath.

I'd be surprised if the steering wheel leather wasn't a high quality leather. Pretty much all luxury cars come with good leather on the steering wheel. I've been noticing that many modern cars with highly "sculpted" steering wheels (like thumb slots and unique shaping) have harder surfaces. It might be because they have to glue the leather onto the wheel so it doesn't lift as stitching alone wouldn't be able to keep the leather on the surface of the wheel.

This makes no sense. Care to elaborate?

Sure. I wish mine was leather. Doesn't seem like it. Seems "sensatechy." The middle part seems like leather (I have the black vernasca upholstery) but the actual wheel cover is different. I can't find any objective evidence from BMW that it *is* leather, and I certainly hope to be proven wrong. Since there are hardly any written reviews out, I have watched a couple youtube reviews and on one the guy doing the review specifically said it was not a real leather cover; but I would like better authority than that.

It's definitely a leather wrapped wheel. I agree that the leather in the F30 felt more delicate but that's not a good thing IMO.

Harder grainy leather will last longer, and it actually grips better as well. In my opinion the new M sport steering wheel is amazing. Thicker and feels great to grip, better then my M4s. Yes I said, deal with it everyone. Before anyone starts bashing, go to a local dealer and check it out yourself. I'm not talking about which one looks better, but tactile feel and grip.

Is it possible to have individual steering wheel optioned and paddle shifters? I cant see the shifters in the configurator cockpit view.

Not from the factory. You would have to go aftermarket.

As an aside

Giving the steering wheel a good clean with leather cleaner and then a leather food makes it so much nicer.

Same for the upholstery - gave mine a good going over when it was delivered and it looked so much nicer. I feed mine every six months or so and give it a good clean every couple of years and It pays dividends.
