I only keep laughing at these dramatic exaggerations of fire cases with electric cars.
Recently there was a Tesla burn in our neighboring country Austria. Many Swiss news channels also wrote about a burning battery. The next day the picture of the dismantled car appeared. The battery was completely intact and had nothing to do with the fire in the least.

I wonder if that is plain water or chemically treated.

But.. it is an article... for clicks... what is this reasonable question sir, please dont disturb the clicks.

Typical.... people complaining about M badging that was originally put on at the factory and done through a decision made by BMW. Despite your beliefs you don't get to decide what deserves an M Badge and what doesn't.

I hope BMW comes out with a plane and sticks a damn M badge on it...

Bmw refers you to the fine print which says, if you dont charge correctly it may catch fire and bmw is not liable. Just kidding.

I agree that these type of catastrophic break downs are extremely inconvenient, hence why I am hesitant to consider EVs. Far too many disaster stories like this. I was convinced that tesla just didnt know how to make safe cars (or they just cut corners) but with bmw having these issues, it doesnt paint a rosy picture

Doesn't your insurance cover all expenses to get you back home?

No, I dont think any insrance will cover evacuation expances. I mean, I have several insrances applied during the trip (casco, health, "green card") - they will cover acedent damage cased by me, health treatment, car damage/loss .. but not plane tickets end sutch.

My insurance (and I think most car insurances in europe) cover travel expenses back home, only had to use it once when my father's car broke down on a trip, and we got home by taxi. And the car was towed to the dealer

I'm sure the Model T had its share of set backs. If I get an EV soon, I'll just charge it with a long extension cord on the street 🚎

BMW recalls quite some PHEV cars due to the risk of fire: https://www.electrive.com/2020/10/13...e-phev-models/

It seems there were few more accidents like this. Hopefully they sort it out.
