M340i Launch Control-Wow!

I tried launch control today for the first time. It’s easy to do and the acceleration is impressive.

Just remember you only get to do it 20 times before it locks you out.

20 times back to back? In my 330i, I've done it (MUCH) more than 20 times and it still works.

I was just joking...there's no limit to the amount of launches you can do.

X-Drive

The launch control is especially strong with X-Drive, as there is very strong acceleration with no tire slippage.

For those who haven't tried it, it's done by turning off DSC, putting trans in 'S', holding down brake pedal with left foot, flooring throttle, & then releasing brakes within 3 seconds.

That joke went right over my head! I thought it was like Audi DSGs where there’s a 200 LC limit or something!

Haha that's exactly where I was getting the "limited launches" from. I remember Audi forum members all going back and forth to whether that was true or not lol

On a somewhat related note, what are folks doing for break-in periods? Aka, are you following them, or just letting loose? Is break-in 1200 miles?

Yup same here... broke it in, kept things civil the first 1,200 miles. Now? sports+ most of the time.

I have half a**ed my break in period. Have not done launch control or floored it yet. But I do drive in sports sometimes and have pushed 100 on the interstate

Followed the manual for the break period and tried to go through the rev range sub 4K rpm until 1200 miles. Like most on here, I'm a little OCD about those things (sometimes to a fault)

Thanks for the feedback, folks. I think I'll do my best to follow the break-in process. Once that happens, Sport+ 24/7!

Are you guys turning the DSC all the way off (push and hold DSC button for a couple seconds) or just putting the car in sport traction (just push button)? I've tried to do launch control a couple times and haven't had success yet.

Long pressing the button won't work. You have to press it once to go to dynamic stability (or sport stability or something like that). I used to long press and it wouldn't let launch control work.

Exactly. Seems counterintuitive, but it's just the single press of the DSC.

Can this be done from Individual as well or do you have to be strictly in Sport +?
