A little off topic, but in the 2nd picture on the original post there is a copper-looking ribbon attached to the windshield. Anyone know what this is? I'm guessing a heating element to keep ice off the sensors behind the windshield. Maybe this also explains why there are vents in the plastic housing surrounding the mirror mount, so heat can be extracted.

Had the same guess as you. Got confirmation a winter or two ago with the windshield covered in snow, the sensors were all cleared.
