While I support this, please don't limit your definition of soapboxing to only negative comments. There are several people who love the new car who like nothing more than to classify those who don't as haters, and declare how delighted and superior they will feel when everyone eventually changes their minds and comes round to their way of thinking. That is just as obnoxious as any of the overly repetitive negative comments.

I don't mind anyone being critical of an opinion. I don't care for a personal attack. We are all adults here. There are just as many opinions as there are cars

opinions are like cars... we all have one. must not be a colonoscopist in mn or there's no way you could've censored that.

also so everyone is aware, you can "ignore" someone by clicking their profile and hitting the ignore button. You'll no longer see their posts. I haven't ever used it but just tried it with themnmd and sure enough, post disappeared. Then I un-ignored to write this post.

I know we still don't want a flood of negativity (BMW's fault ), but this might help a few folks filter out someone who is boring or triggering.

If people are ignoring people whom they don't agree with then that is pretty shallow. I will always listen even if I don't agree. I feel one can always learn something from those you don't agree with. Perhaps this thread belongs in the non car topic area? Not for me to decide.

While the rule is universal I read this is a warning that is specific to this forum due to excessive trolling here. So it belongs here.

Lets take a moment to realize this car design has caused the mods to sticky a troll warning.

Never seen this before.

Interesting. This IS a message board. It is for enthusiasts to discuss the cars. Are we saying we only want glowing reviews? If we are to simply just accept anything BMW markets to us with robotic responses, why discuss at all? I am genuinely curious why mods are making this stand. Are we worried that buyers with deposits will have their feelings hurt? Is there an obligation to perform free marketing for BMW? What is the driver behind this sticky?

Or maybe the new direction of BMW is polarizing the long-standing fanbase. This is the issue with the G8x cars. If a user comes here being new to BMW or not owning M cars in the past, I can see why they might find the G8x highly appealing, from a design standpoint as well. Even some older fans like it, too.

But if you're a particular kind of long-term BMW M fan, which MANY of us are, this direction is a particularly difficult one to accept. After all, there are contemporary traditions (i.e., last 40 years) that are being thrown out the window with this car. It's gaining weight. It's made "bold" (polarizing) design changes that some would argue (based on BMW corporate interviews) are driven by an emerging market overseas that perhaps a more conservative, traditional BMW fan might not enjoy. I distinctly remember Hooydonk a long time ago saying that understated styling is timeless. That resonates with a lot of us.

You are witnessing a fan base air their concerns about the brand direction--on a website specifically designed to debate the merits of these vehicles. Is this soapboxing? Trolling? I really don't know. edit: I want to add, I have never seen someone use the word "inciting" in reference to discussion. Edit2: I'll say as well everyone is pretty damn civil. Edgy at times maybe myself included but everyone's been pretty good.

With all do respect to the mods BMW and all who post here, including me; I feel no one should be ignored or removed based on disagreements about any opinion or criticism of an opinion. Such things as harassment threats and personal attacks should be. Of course these too would be open to interpretation. So, have we beat this horse enough? PS: no I do not advocate the cruelty towards animals, Incase anyone was thinking that.

You are so right.
It's not trolling, its real life people. This car has polarized the community like none before.

We are allowed to express our opinions. If you don't like it then we agree to disagree. Simple as that.

My opinion is that this car's design was marginal / risky at best. I could have grown to love it. Having now been subjected to the M Performance version I have to miss a generation, that's all. That was the deciding factor, ok I'm free to not get those options but I will forever have that image in my mind. I guess it's M2, M5 or other from now because I have always been BMW. I won't leave the brand because of this. I just don't like it and express that.

I just feel it's lost all sense of class, elegance and sophistication with that monstrosity. Tuning at its worst.

Fish & Chip shop rich as they say. You can be rich but that doesn't mean you necessarily have taste. This is a Chinese / Russian vehicle now.

The base car would cost me 152,000 USD. A fool and his money are easily parted. I'm not a fool.

However I do like the heated willy warmer on the M Performance seat. Does it have a massage function as well ?

I'm not a fan of censorship at all. And I really don't think that Jason (Admin/OP) had censorship in mind as this guidance was given - I think it was meant to contain those that are continually going on to every thread with their extreme sided opinion (positive and negative) especially on topics that aren't even related... to the point it floods even the slightest bit of meaningful conversation. In all fairness, this has happened... but I'll also agree that the social media pages are a complete sh*tshow at the moment - but does anyone actually read the comments on @bmwm anyways?!

None the least - I think the grill discussions will become more polarizing than the discussion about whether the M Performance branded cars are actually true M cars... but let's not bring that one up AGAIN!!
