HUD and Fuel
I have a brand new M340i Touring and I have two questions.
Fuel Cap says use 95, but those numbers tend to be arbitrary and minimum depending on the market. I have always filled my petrol cars with 98 but there is a 40c/l difference in price between 95 and 98. It's cheaper to buy 98 from Gull Locally which uses some sort of Force 10 branded Ethanol mix. Is it OK to use 98 ethanol? Will it have detectable performance difference or cause the engine issues short or long term? Secondly, I can't drive during the day without polarized sunglasses. I had a 335D 2015 that had a HUD previously and it was bright enough at the brightest setting to see the HUD in most situations, but even at brightest on the M340i, it's hard to see in lots of situations. Is there a hack, or code or something that will further boost the brightness? Lastly, in my old car, some radio stations would display the song being played, or other information that I can't seem to get displayed in the new car, is there a trick to that? |

Cant answer on the gas accurately quickly with conversions and all, but regarding the other two:
1. HUD with polarized lenses - cut a transparency (overhead projector) film to fit in the hub projector, this will change the reflective angle and should be similar results to tilting your head 45 degrees with the glasses on. 2. Radio - no real input here to change, but curious if anything shows in your "Program Guide", or if its all "no information available" |

On the HUD, have you tried high quality non polarized but tinted sunglasses? Pilots use these for the same reason and if it can work for them, it should be able to work for you.
That is what I do and the HUD is crystal clear even when driving directly into the sun. |

BMW also makes "1/2" polarized glasses, where the bottoms aren't so when you glance down at your HUD you can still see. Have them, they work.

You could try rotating the HUD a bit in the settings to see if it's any better as well. I would say with my Maui Jim's in my F80, increasing the brightness, rotating it, and throwing a transparency on help enough to at least make me see it without cocking my head to the side, but I ended up going with a non-polarized set for the car anyway. I hold on to my glasses fairly long, but it's been my ritual to get a new pair and a new watch every time I get a new car. If you hit the media button and select a channel, you should see the program guide right over on the right, this pulls up a listing similar to what you would see on a TV.
