Reading between the lines here, it sounds like counter points to the the M3 wagon having a chance to reach NA. From you, I personally would take that as word that it's not happening. Unfortunately since I would have enjoyed seeing them around. Would brighten up the dealership visits even if I have no plans to park one in my own drive way.

M4 all the way for me
Unless there's a secret cult of 250 die-hard ///M enthusiasts hiding in the US willing to part with $180k - $200k in cash (no lease, high finance APR rate), there is zero chance.

BMW should really bring this car over to garner some good will from the enthusiasts. Even if it's extremely limited and expensive. But knowing this iteration of BMW, they will mayyybe make an M4GC because that body style will already be coming to North America. Too bad it looks more GT than GC...

Agreed, while the RS6 is amazing it's out of my price range. A RS4 Avant would be perfect though. I've seen videos of the ABT RS4 R and it's amazing.

Hopefully the RS6 Avant would depreciate nicely so I can pick one up in a few years lol

This is awesome! While many say they would buy a wagon few actually would complete the purchase. Personally, I would scoop an RS6 Avant, if I would not have to pay over sticker. Look forward to seeing the final execution of this beast.

If it were to come to the US Of A...

Well, if it were to come to us here in the good Ol USA, well, trading in my M4... YES! Yes, I would. I don't want a E63 AMG wagon... I would buy a C63 AMG wagon if they had them here, but I want a BMW - so please BMW of NA - please...

... just woke up, it won't happen, so I guess I'll buy a Mercedes Sprinter van and keep my M4.

Pretty clever by BMWM to use all the spy shots and rumor press of the G80 as misdirection for the real scene stealer—the G81!

Hey, BMWNA, bring the M3 wagon into the US with 6MT. I'll be right at the front of the line at my dealer with my deposit.

haha womp womp: Update 8/12/20: As expected, BMW has confirmed to Road & Track that the M3 Touring will not be coming to the United States.

WOMP WOMP!

man BMW is so not winning. First with the beaverteef front grills and now not giving the US the wagon. They will sell limited model CS/GTS models but not the wagon? I would think the wagon would sell better than higher spec performance models? Look at the Audi RS6.

It's clear BMW is lost and has no idea what the market wants/is looking for anymore

Each new model variation that BMW AG sells in the US market costs around $1,000,000 for DOT safety training. As a 3 series N55 offered with a 6MT and 8AT is two variations, $2,000,000 DOT test costs. Not worth the cost to import to the states.
I don't see how it cost them a million dollars for "safety training" of each model, since manufactures self-certify their vehicles.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is authorized under Title 49, Chapter 301 of the U.S. Code to issue Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards for new motor vehicles and new items of motor vehicle equipment.

NHTSA, however, does not approve motor vehicles or motor vehicle equipment. Instead, Chapter 301 establishes a "self-certification" process under which each manufacturer is responsible for certifying that its products meet all applicable safety standards. I note that the term "manufacturer" is defined in 49 U.S.C. '30102(5)(B) as "a person . . . manufacturing or assembling motor vehicles or motor vehicle equipment [or] importing motor vehicles or motor vehicle equipment for resale."

To certify the G81 for the US would be in excess of $30 million. You're misinterpreting what self-certification means. RoW, the regulatory entities perform the certifications. In the US, the manufacturer has to declare and provide evidence the testing has been performed successfully by an approved entity.

You can effectively get a M340i in Australia by buying an Alpina B3 wagon. I think that bringing in only the 330i was a deliberate move by Australian dealers to leave a little space in the market for the Alpina.

The M3 wagon may well make its way here, if not there is always the B3.

Don't think you can call the CS models overpriced at all. In Germany they keep their prices very well and there are a lot less CS-models for sale than 2 years ago. And those cars are incredible, the M3 CS is the best M-car I have ever driven.

The wagon looks very nice but lets wait for the face

If it get the flared hips like on an F80....it may become a legendary unicorn cult status.

G81 6MT Pure? Will it be possible or will they be XDrive Competitions all round.

What does '... a highly variable luggage compartment' mean?

The problem with current car design is that the need for a swoopy sporty rear and an obsession with a 'flat loading bay' by journalists completely kills the height available in the boot.

Just tried an Alpina B5 Touring to see if we could move from 2 cars to one, but that has a tiny boot for an estate. So with a large dog who likes to sit up and look out, I expect that we are stuck with SUVs for a while.

I got a sofa in my old mondeo estate and closed the tailgate. Maybe I should look for that old 850 touring car. Now that had a boot.
