I loved my F31. I'm thinking of finding another one on BaT if the G 81 doesn't come here

Wish we got the G21's in the US. Still have my F31 right now for my son.

If they were to sell 2,000 M3 wagons per year (a very optimistic number IMO), 6,000 total, that means the certification amortization cost per car is around $5,000. The typical BMW wagon costs an extra $2,500 or so over the corresponding sedan, so you are looking at $7,000-8,000 more for an M3 wagon compared to the sedan. People may think it's cool to drive around in an M3 wagon, but how many would pay an extra $8k for the privilege?

I think BMW would really struggle to sell these cars at these prices, considering the X3M Comp would be significantly cheaper.

But I'm wondering what you need the car for anyway. If you are considering an M2CS, you want a lighter more focused performance car. A 3,900lbs AWD automatic M3 wagon would certainly not be that. What gives? (I'm curious).
Can you imagine the epicness of some lunatic showing up to VIR and doing sub 2:00 with a friggin wagon? Space for 8 tires in the back.

G20 is super impressive even in 4 banger guise. I think they've done an incredible job with it

I agree with your assessment but I also think that is the problem: BMW is trying to pass the costs (rightfully so, but still) to the customer on a low volume, low demand vehicle. And the reason its even lower demand is it costs more than the sedan. But then they say, well, we can sell more SAVs like the X3 so why not make an X3M for the "enthusiasts" that want more room. And that all makes sense, but they've basically pigeonholed any chances of a 3 series touring/wagon to a no win situation. If they aggressively priced it the same as a sedan by amortizing the cost across all 3 or 4 series, then that helps make it an easier pill to swallow. Not sure why they don't look at as a whole so they have a more compelling lineup. Instead they gave us some bullshit models like the 3GT, 4GT, 5GT, and 6GT that NOBODY wanted.

Noted. But I think I’d like more a 1:55 in a coupe if at all possible. And I wouldn’t pay more to go slower in a wagon, that’s just me.

VIR is a bit far from Western Australia, but this is basically my plan

Forget this ever showing up in the US thanks to ridiculous EPA/DOT/whatever rules that require makers to certify every body type and transmission that uses the same damn engine, which is why there is not a F31 335i manual sitting in my garage instead of the F30 version that's there now.

I did a mash up from the BMW UK configurator. A bit rough bit gives an idea.

I can understand not selling the wagon in certain markets, but it would've been nice if those of us who really wanted one could somehow import it :/

I love my upcoming G80 already but imagining it in wagon guise makes me think "goddamn I'd much prefer it over the standard sedan".

Oh well. Guess those of us residing in the markets where it isn't available will live vicariously through those that can get it.
