I have done some serious research on this and the conclusion is that if you have a US spec car, the wiring / hardware is completely different and basically it can not be just coded.
I hope I am wrong and I hope someone can prove me wrong so that I can order a set of Euro Spec tail lights with proper amber turn signals.

Further, ROW spec lights will provide rear fog light capability as well.
I don't think US spec lights have rear fogs built in which as least in the past we could get activated bec they were physically there, that is no more. What a bummer!

I got the lights in and the EU switch and the car says it isn't available. Making me think it may just be a programming/coding issue. The rear fogs are next to the reverse light on the EU tails lights, and I haven't looked at my US lights to see if they are in there.

The lights will plug in and function like yours do but I believe the modules just wont separate the braking function. Research on the X3 forums as there are few discussions over there as well as the G30 forums. I am not aware of anyone successfully activating the rear fogs or the Euro turn signals on US spec GX platforms. If your shop gets them to work, there is hope for sure. Try to get the coding details for the rest of us if you don't mind.

This should not call for selling your car. Also, back in the day US State Department and military folks were exempt from local regulations for stuff like this......that must of changed since my time back in the day.

So it going to take some time before the coders and software develops that's compatible with the new ECUs in the G series. Even if the US-spec tails is different than the Euro/ROW, you can repin the harness to match each appropriate light. Coding is needed though to move around the mapping output. Euro vs US - spec taillights: |

I am hoping some coders will see this and be able to assist further because in the UK you register your car the same way you would if you were a local regardless of the nationality or military status. |

BMW military sales after support sucks in a really bad way. Seems like thy're only interested in selling the car, once you have it good luck getting any type of help. Hopefully you get some good news! |

I agree BMW military sales is the worst when it comes to after sales. Once I paid for the car in full, It took nearly a month to travel a 2 hour drive because of "paperwork." This is my first and possibly last BMW due to the way I have been treated through this process. To make matters worse, any dealership could probably fix the issue in a matter of minutes. I appreciate you checking it out for me, I can at least say the support is there from the community, just not the company. |

Hey new here as I am considering the M340i as my next car. I also hate how the US tail lights work.
Anyway if BMWs work like vw/audi I see no reason why it would need rewiring because only the brake portion lights up when applying the brakes. This means that turn signals can be operated individually and are not wired with the brakes. Pretty sure only reprogramming is needed to make them function like row lights. For rear fogs however I think you would need to run an extra wire that goes from the right connection on the electronics module directly to the tail light. You could check the number of connections on the harness of the inner tail light housing (1 reverse, 1 parking, 1 fog). |

As for physical differences, the Euro spec only has one small trip for the brakes and the lower strip is amber instead of red. |

I think, getting the turn signals to work properly will take some serious coding which no one quite figured out.
