Hi All, I placed a custom build order on march 12th and as we know due to current circumstances, it hasn't hit production yet. I'm working with a broker and he offered to swap order with a similar build car sitting at the port. He said the car is secured under by name but he does not have the vin or production number yet. He himself is working with a bmw dealer and apparently he wouldn't give out the vin until the car's at the dealership. So i'm not sure if the car is at US port and at the germany port. He says it's in transit and he will be here in 2 weeks and asking me to be patient. Is there anyway that we could track the car with just the specs and the final mrsp?

Nope....need a Production No. or VIN...

Not to burst your bubble but I wouldn't get too excited yet.

My order was placed on March 17th and went into "scheduled for production" on March 19th, then "production begins" and I had the VIN number on March 20th.

The factories closed shortly thereafter (mine is being built in Mexico), and as of today, it is still in "production begins" status.

Just heard from my dealer and it looks like my order is going to be cancelled until 2021MY.

I'm going to visit the dealer Monday and get some more specifics like whether or not I'm getting my deposit back. I also want to drive a m340, I still haven't driven one.

I'll probably stick with the m340 if the deal I negotiated is offered on the 2021, alternatively they have an m2 comp that is really nice so that might be an option and I also have an appointment to check out a 2018 911 tomorrow which might be another option

Bummed but not surprised seems to be my motto with this whole process.

I was told by my dealer if you placed a M340i xdrive order before the lockdown and if it hasn't hit production, BMW is no longer accepting that order and will be cancelled accordingly so my order will be cancelled.

It seems like the cancellations are all M340s. that really sucks. Selfishly, I'm hoping since the 330s are so common they're still going forward with all those

Did you just hear that? I've heard that thrown around a couple times now, but my order still hasn't been canceled from what I can tell. Does your order still show on the MyGarage page?

Yes, It still says scheduled for production but my dealer said this order wouldn't go into production. He also i might be an option of replacing this order with 2021 specs which aren't out yet. So he's trying to get the one at the port so hopefully i'll get it next week

I'm wondering whether this is actually happening or if dealers are just saying stuff to move their stock. I've heard this statement from dealers multiple times and so far nothing has happened to my order. The orders that actually we're cancelled were removed from MyGarage. I've talked to BMW NA and they know nothing about additional cancellations of builds. My dealer has also not mentioned anything about a possible cancellation of my order. I guess time will tell.

I agree with your theory that it might be just an excuse to move old stock, especially since they're having trouble moving inventory as is and there is definitely going to be a massive overstock of 2020s (mainly 330s but still a good number of 340s I'm sure). When I ordered my 330 my CA (truth be told the most honest sales guy I've ever come across) he phrased it that he was concerned that the 2020 production may stop, but was careful to point out that was not an official word from BMW. he really had no reason to try to push me towards anything on the lot since none of their available inventory was even close to the specs I wanted, and no dealer in the NE region had one similar that he could get either. when I said I wanted to role the dice on going through with the order he didn't push back - and as I've posted mine has already gone into production.

Yep, similar experience here. Dealer initially tried to sell me stock due to the longer timeframe on my build when all of this happened, but now that I held strong on the build they haven't said anything about cancellations. If my build gets cancelled, then so be it...

So my order being cancelled may be a blessing in disguise. I shot a build request over to bimmerdavid and got a fantastic quote for a 2021, also locally there are some m340i's that are very close to the build I wanted. I'm going to see how aggressive they are.

Do they have lease incentives already on a 2021MY?

That is great news!
Mine just entered the assembly line after being in “production begins” status since March 20th!
