Coolant..Blue vs Green HT-12

Hello, anyone know the differences between the older Blue OEM coolant and the new HT-12 Green coolant? Went to the dealer to buy coolant and the clerk kept on insisting my 2020 M340I took blue coolant and that's all they use in the service departments for top ups. Stated the green is only used on hybrids and electric. As far as I know the factory fill is green if anyone can confirm on theirs. Ended up buying the HT-12 as I found a few websites stating they switched back in 2018 and the clerk was still dumfounded and said he had only ever sold one bottle of the green ever since working there. Lots of back and forth later, and after giving him the part number he finally found a bottle in their service department to sell. Very strange, if anyone has any technical data or the reason for the switch or want to confirm if their factory fill is green please let me know! TYIA!

Following along as I have the 2021 M340i and wonder if I’m supposed to use the blue or that new one I’ve seen (green)

Already ordered the blue coolant and ready to get the green one just in case.

Edit: talked to bmw about this and it seems it depends on the build date… so if it was built after 2019 then green coolant.

I have a MY22 and my local dealer told me to use the green one. I purchased the gallon for topping off as the B58 does tend to consume the coolant a bit more than most cars, in my experience.

Isn’t it a closed system? I’d assume if it’s consuming more then there’s some type of leak present.

Yep. After some reading on here and google, it seems some of us leak coolant more than others. The leak apparently comes from the bad cap design + gasket used. Essentially the coolant is evaporating near the cap. I had my Indy shop confirm this by ensuring there was no leaks anywhere in the engine bay or on the splash guards.
