If you want to play it "safe", you could run 275/35 rear and 245/40 front... |

ApexWheels I am looking at ordering a set of FF SM10s for my M340i xdrive. I have stock height. Why not 285s in the rear? I see you all recommend the 245/40 and 275/35 setup which put the diameter a little taller. The 285 keeps close to same height but is wider in the rear. Can you comment on this?

We recommend 245/40-19f, 275/35-19 to most customers because it has a taller sidewall which gives more ride comfort and has good availability so chances are someone can find this setup at their local distributor or tire rack. It isn't the only option and just because something is not on the guide doesn't mean it will never work. but for anyone going will a setup not on the guide, you'll need to be more well-versed in xDrive-compatible setups and the differences in widths than you would otherwise be going the easy route. -Tom

This one is right on the edge of xDrive compatible in my opinion, but it's a better fitment in terms of pairing the width of the front tire to the rear and reducing understeer relative to the 245 front/285 rear. If you were going to run a 245 in the front, the 275 in the rear with the larger sidewalls would be my pick, hence its place in the guide. -Tom
