Hold on....how is it sleazy. They sent you a text at 10am about a car. That is all they ever sent out. Why did you assume you were the only one to get a text? Nobody was lead on. Mental stuff really.

2023 BMW X4 M40i  [10.00]
In 2017, I went on a test drive of a car with a salesman. However, five minutes into the drive, the salesman received a call informing him that the car had been sold to someone who had paid cash without even seeing it. I was disappointed, but I understood that money can sometimes make things happen quickly.

If you moved to a CT4-V Blackwing, I can see that. Or moved up to an M550i for more comfort and v8 sounds. Or an upgrade to the M4 like you wanted. I really don't get the move to an IS500 though other than out of spite because one sales guy was an asshole who got your hopes up (I wouldn't be happy either).

The only thing this car does better than your M440i is make V8 sounds and maybe some comfort, but everything else seems like a downgrade.

All I can say is “okay then”. Quite a few other thoughts come to mind, but I’ll just leave it at that.

I bought my G20 330i in 2 days, from the time the sales changed the status of an inbound unit to P1, to the time taking delivery.

I was going to leave a deposit, but the sales said don't bother and just return in 2 days.

On the 2nd day the sales called at 10:15am asking if I still wanted the car.

So I went to get a cashier check and gave it to the sales at 10:45am, and took the car home at 11:45am.

I was prepared the sales backing out of the deal any minute, up to the point the sales contract was signed, even after they got my payment in full.

I don't understand the meaning of your message, you've been offered a car, instead of saying yes directly, you ask for the price in credits, so you didn't have the money, nor really thought about buying this car, then you come to strut for having bought this Lexus which personally I find horrible (but I know it's personal) and to avenge yourself you sold your M440??? I really confess and with respect not to understand the logic and your complaint, but in any case thank you for not staying with BMW (humor).

This is an ironic post for me because I went the opposite way. Two years ago (almost), I was lusting for that 2UR-GSE V8. I have never owned a V8 and figured this car was my last chance, especially since it's an old reliable Lexus V8. I test drove the car and I liked. It didn't have the briskness of an M340, but it drove like a powerful touring car, which was what I wanted. I however was turned off by every dealer I contacted, asking for at least a $4k mark up at the time. The only dealer willing to sell at MSRP had an incredibly long wait list. So I started looking again at BMW and then I noticed the M440 GC. I was sold! I put in my order and waited over 4 months to get my car. Absolutely no regrets, and I am not missing the V8 lol. The M440 GC is a better GT car in every way except in engine sound.

SA’s are there to sell cars, and until a deposit’s put down and a contract signed, it’s fair game - that’s the nature of it.

Over the years I’ve been let down by SA’s from various dealerships (including Bmw) on a few occasions. What you’ve experienced is disappointing, but not surprising. This could happen at any dealership across any car brand.

Personally, I’ve learned to not let myself get too emotional when buying a car. At the end of the day its just a car, miss one today, catch another tomorrow.

Please elaborate lol, we sure can use more excitement around these parts. I am speechless this is what OP got. I was reading thinking he got the M4 from another dealer. Shocking since he's one of the biggest fans here of the GC. Anyhow, he's happy so good for him. I am also curious to hear his take on the IS500 VS the RWD M340i since he's also a prior owner of that car.

I have contemplated the IS500 but I just feel like I would get bored eventually if it's my primary car. My M340i just clocked 45k and went in for service yesterday and got a clean bill of health. Car is 5 years old this summer and it has been flawless. Therefore, for me there really is no need to try something else that I may not like longterm. I crave something sportier than the M340i and the IS500 is not that since it's softer. The way things are going I may just hold onto this car indefinitely and get a G80 as a fun car in the future.

Huh. Very odd post from a major booster of the 440 GC.

I hope it makes you happy. I have gotten to the point where i think chasing the better thing is a hollow goal.

But, I do agree BMW dealers have gotten worse in the last 10-20 years. I have no knowledge of whether Lexus dealers are better.

I just know that I never loved the driving dynamics of Toyotas/Lexi. YMMV.

Pretty decent mix actually. Most people take the salesman's side, which again doesn't surprise me. It just confirms exactly what I thought; most BMW owners are jerks that love patting themselves on the back. Actually, most German brand owners are like that. I have no idea why, but they are, but BMW owners (specifically, M3/M4 owners) tend to be the worst. I've always approached topics here from a "BMW makes great products" standpoint, but never belittled anyone. Funny enough, I get belittled by a salesman, and suddenly, it's my fault. It's so predictable, it's kind of funny actually.

As the second part of this little experiement, I posted some pics of my new car over on the r/Lexus subreddit, and you know what... it got 100% positive feedback on the posts. Yet, the one time I posted my M440i GC on the r/BMW subreddit, and it got a mix of "nice car" and "god I hate that grill". It's odd how the r/BMW subreddit is somewhat hostile, while the r/Lexus subreddit is overwhelmingly inviting and positive.

Just so no one thinks I'm patting myself on the back, here's the reddit post. I look forward to hearing people explain this one away...

Congrats on the purchase. One of my track buddies has an IS500 and tracked it the second day he owned it, less than 100 miles on the odometer, lol. Drove it around the track and was not impressed with how big it felt compared to the G20. It did however feel much more comfortable and elegant on the street. Great daily, sporty and can’t beat Toyota. I’ll always love Toyota and respect any vehicle they bring into production. There is always a purpose behind Toyota’s decision. Kaizen! So, this whole rant has just been a sociological experiment on
how people behave on a car forum? Okey doke.

You didn’t get belittled by anyone. They just didn’t live up
to your expectation about how to be treated. It happens.

Enjoy the new car, it’s beautiful. And, I hope you find the
coddling you seek over on the Lexus forum.

I won’t argue the fact that there are some forum members
here who could benefit from being more generous with
useful information, and stop filling thread's with dug in opinions.
It’s getting old on this forum.

This isn’t a track car at all. It definitely skews a bit more towards comfort. However, I did get to take it on my favorite driving road tonight, and it can hang for sure… as long as you’re in Sport+. Any other mode does not do this car justice. Sport+ stiffens up the dampeners and steering significantly. It gives the car a bit more aggression, but I will admit that it still is not as aggressive as my previous M440i GC, and that’s ok. This 5.0 V8 has a character that I never felt in the BMW. It’s quiet and subdued… until you put your foot in it. Then, it becomes a roaring monster. The duality of this car is sublime; so refined and subdued, but as soon as you give it some juice, the beast roars to life. It’s really fkin amazing.

And don’t even get me started on the Mark Levinson sound system. Makes the HK system in the M440i GC feel like Fisher Price My First Premium Sound System. The ML system sounds godly.

The scenario described by OP is quiet generic across car brands, across products(e.g. houses, tv's), and/or even across cultures and time.

It feels that OP is just learning about how human societies work, that by itself is a worthwhile experiment.

I absolutely agree on this. I am no audiophile, but the 1800watt ML audio in that car is something to experience.

Enjoy your new car. Despite all the trash talking here (some from me, lol), no car make or model is the best at everything for everyone. The IS500 is unique in its own right. If it puts a smile on your face when you get behind the wheel, it is a winner.

Sales people get a bad rap, sometimes it’s justified. Sometimes it isn’t. At the same time you messaged saying work up some numbers, another customer could be sat there buying the car. Sales guys are juggling multiple things at once, it’s not an easy job and they are under a lot of pressure. I have asked for pricing on plenty of cars I didn’t buy. The cars I did I made it clear I was a very serious buyer, had done my research, and would be happy to put a deposit down right away. As a sales person myself (not cars) I know how sometimes customers can expect certain things without considering other perspectives. None of that discounts that the Lexus is a cool car, interested to see how you like it once the shiner new toy thrill wears off.

I agree with others here. I heard your story and I can't think of a good reason why you should be mad and blaming your BMW dealer, or writing off BMW altogether. It's bizarre, and shows that you don't really understand how car sales, or sales in general work.

There is nothing particularly special about YOU that indicates that a product that is in high demand should be held just for you to buy it. You were probably on a list of people who all were interested in getting an M car, hence you and several others got the message. You should be happy that the BMW sales rep reached out to you in the first place.

But somebody else got there first, that is life. You probably looked silly getting angry at the sales people as they left. Not a good look.

Anyhow, the Lexus IS 500 is a great buy, and I congratulate you on that.

huh, I mean dealerships don't curate cars... unless its a special order in. They just call mad people randomly asking if they want a new car or not. If the car sits it sits.
