I知 glad the G20 brings back the solid door feel

Call me crazy, but one of the best new "features" of the M340i (and I hope all G20s) is that closing the doors sounds German again. F30 doors made a heavy plastic thud. G20 doors feel lighter and make a clearly mechanical (metal) sound when shut that reminds me of older BMWs and Porsches. Very close to the door sound made by a 997 that I used to own.

The door thud is nice!

Unfortunately they are light and I've had a couple of hard slams from my daughter's friends!!

F30 was so cheaply built.

Man I don't know what it is about this car but everyone who closes my doors always slams them unintentionally ... probably cause of how light they are but yes it's a satisfying sound to close them..

Probably still not as solid as the doors on the 1988 2-door E30 I had over 20 years ago.

Sit in an E90 then in an F30. There's noticeably cheaper materials in the cabin, particularly in the center console.

This topic has been beaten to death on Bimmerpost, everybody is in agreement.

Hmmmmmm...I owned an E92 335i LCI, and the only thing that was nicer to me was the way the I-Drive display was located inside the dash and not on top of it (which I agree is cheaper).

Other than that, I can't tell much of a difference.

Had multiple E9x and F3x.

F3x makes E9x feel outdated and G20 makes F3x feel outdated.

I've got to say, even though some of the material quality is lacking the build quality feels like quite the step up from the F30. The interior door handles also feel a lot more solid and open with a very firm action. Also, the 1-9 preset buttons all move at once when you press a single button. It's seems intentional though - if you press button 1, button 9 depresses as much as if you had pressed button 9 directly. It's a small detail but pretty cool.

Also the G20 iDrive buttons are really nice. In photos they look like cheap plastic but in real life they are pretty high quality in texture and tactile feel.

I am glad I am not the only one that values the solid door feel. Yep the door closing sound of the G20 is very nice.

It was also one of the main things that put me off the Tesla Model 3, the doors felt incredibly cheap for a premium car.

A common criticism of the F30 was that its interior did not change enough in design and quality decreased. It's not wonder the F30's interior started getting panned by the press only a couple years into production, as it felt old next to the newest from Audi, Mercedes, and Lexus. BMWs lineup as a whole started getting panned for having stale-looking interiors during the decade.

I'm glad the G20 takes a refreshing design direction inside and out.

I can't stand Audi (boring) or Mercedes (gaudy) interiors. And the F3x interior was a leap forward in my view. Couldn't care what the press say. They're not paying for my car.

And yet I'm reading that some people think the G20's interior is cheaper than the F30's.

The solid door close definitely was the first thing that stood out to me when I checked out the M340i. Definitely impressed with the improved interior design and quality over the previous gen too.

Whoever thinks that is clearly smoking crack. The F30 was an abomination. The interior design and quality were both atrocious. The G20 is a massive step up. The E90 was probably still better, though.

Well to each his own. I like my F30 far more than my E92.

Yep same here, and my steering wheel center spokes were replaced twice on e90 because BMW used some cheaper rubberized spray on.
Everything else is nicer in f30 than my old e90

Agreed, my 2011 interior is still like new and the doors are very solid, but looking at the center console and dash it now feels outdated. Makes sense since the design was from 2006. The exterior is a different story as it still holds up to to F30 and G20 generations. The doors feel heavy and may be why my wife feels she has to slam them.

Having gotten my G20 yesterday, I completely agree with the OP that the door feel is so much better than the F3x generation.
