"Replace battery" iDrive message
Just got my 330 xdrive couple weeks ago. Drove it for couple of short drives (total of 50 miles), parked my car in the garage while going on vacation. Now that I am back the car shows check battery message when I start. The car engine does start though, so it seems like the computer is really conservative?
I have driven it around in hopes of the message going away, but no such luck. I just took my car to the dealer this morning, they said they will replace the battery. Is this sort of thing common? Anybody else experienced it? |

Mine was in the shop for four weeks. No joke. Just got it back today. Battery AND alternator problem. Alternator brought in from Germany. Wrong part number. Sent again. Fixed. I hope ...

The battery probably was run down while it was sitting at the dealer somehow. I wouldn't worry too much about it. You're getting a fresh new battery so it's a win-win. If it shows up again after you get a new battery then it will get annoying, but I wouldn't worry about that yet.

It is actually pretty common. My F10 did this all the time and it was always plugged to tender if I were going to let it sit for an extensive amount of time.
However, message should go away on the next start up once the battery is charged.

I picked my car from a dealer, drove the first 20 km with a few stops. I got that message then. I suppose my battery wasn't fully charged when I was picking up my car. Driving 2 x 500 km has definitely charged it but error remained.
I went to service, they did an error reset and it seems to be fine now. |

It seems logical that on delivery, the battery is far from full. So if you do not drive a considerable amount of miles on the highway, before going on a holiday. I can see there will be a warning. Should not happen in again in the future.

If the alternator is bad that will ruin the battery. Probably best to replace it if you are getting a new alternator.

Me too
Owned my new m340i less than 48 hours...same message. You think they would have some way of checking this before delivering. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come - it was a special order.
