not a fan of those wheels but there is some cool lines here and there. I would rather go with BMW perf over this set up for my personal car

While AC Schnitzer is an independent tuner, Alpina is a corporate partner of BMW. AC Schnitzer is just a tuner that modifies vehicles in its shop while Alpina is an "in-house" manufacturer that has a dedicated manufacturing line in BMW plant. Alpina is a very quality oriented manufacturer and its reputation is top notch. And while I do not know about AC Schnitzer, I can tell you that Alpina makes cars much much better! I wish I can get my hands on a 3 or 5 series Alpina. Unfortunately there are no offers for Nord America. Yeah I agree with the wheels, but not from the design point of view as they look good, but most likely from cleaning point of view. |

If it weren't for Alpina, AC schnitzer, Hartge and the likes of Hamann M performance parts wouldn't exist. They saw what these companies were making and decided to do it on their own. It's too bad now these timeless classic companies now have ugly cars to work with. There was a time BMW had the most aggressive looking cars. Late 80's, 90's early 2000's. Now they look like ricers.

Alpina never wanted to be the M Division. That's why BMW allows it too. Alpina's approach is different as they offer a better vehicle from the regular BMW line-up. In terms of "meticulous testing", I can say that while M might do that while engineering their vehicles, the quality of parts and assembly line will have a word to say. While M si a total different animal did not proved to be ultra reliable (with all that "meticulous testing"). Alpina is a very reliable vehicle and their defect rate is very low. So whatever "slap" they put in there it works. However, their improvements are wider than suggested, in some cases they even change the camber in the front and redesigned wishbones (B5); so is not really a "slap"... And if Alpina will offer a 3 or 5 in North American continent I will be all over it. And if you want a fast Estate, Alpina can offer you one which will not be that slower than the M5. If you are implying that Alpina's testing is not where it supposed to be prior of releasing a vehicle and providing a good reliability index, you are wrong. In terms of design I find their language quite nice, calm, conservator and simple and I really like it as I identify myself with the style. But is a matter of taste and will not go there... |
