The graphical display showing cars around you is only for cars produced after July 2019. There is several threads on this topic, and nobody knows if BMW will make a software update to also allow cars produced before July to get their software upgraded to have this new feature. I have a car from March 2019 running on the 7/2019.60 software, as I have had it update at the dealer several times, and I don't have the extended view showing cars around me.

Allright, that's a good sign :-)
Do you have more specifics on the "if" from the manual?
I tried to upload a screenshot though the app but couldn't. But with regards to the if: the part ive read was about emergency stopping the vehicle if the driver become incapacitated and IF the vehicle has lane change assist it will steer the vehicle to the hard shoulder.

The link below is to a BMW Press Release from September 27, 2019 regarding the new 3 series. In the release, they mention “Lane Change Assistant”, but they say that it’s “depend[ent] on the model”. Given that the press release was about the 3 series, this statement would imply that there is a model of the 3 series that would have Lane Change Assistant, right?

If not, it would be super frustrating. The Driving Assistance Professional Package is the same price across the 3, 5, 7, and X5 in the US ($1700). It seems absolutely ridiculous that BMW would sell the package with exactly the same price across all the above mentioned models, but then not include all functionality in certain models. And now that I think about it, this is literally just a software problem. If my car can self drive, self park, and detect cars in my blind spot, it clearly has all the hardware it needs to be able to do lane changes automatically.

I brought my car into a BMW dealership a week ago because none of my ConnectedDrive features were working. Additionally, I asked them to look into this Lane Change Assistant thing and why it’s not even accessible in the GUI.

I’ll let you all know if there’s a resolution to that.

You mentioned you Connected Drive not working. I’m in the same boat. I’ve had my car 5 days now, and it still doesn’t work. The fact is it won’t do anything. I can see my car in the app, but the update time is still set to the day I bought the car. Several attempts by the “Genius”, and 4 calls into support and no one can fix it. How did you get yours working, if you did?

Just tried lane change today and doesn't seem like it works for me. I also have a 2020 X5 that I took delivery of a couple weeks prior to taking delivery of my m340 and the lane change assist on that works flawlessly every time. I have the same drivers assistance pro packages on both cars.

dljames9 :

It was an ordeal. I finally got my car back last week AFTER A MONTH. I had taken it to BMW of Mountain View and they were completely incompetent. The issue happened to actually be hardware-related, instead of software-related (meaning the issue was not due to the ConnectedDrive platform itself). The service techs replaced two telecommunications modules, and the antenna in the shark fin on the roof. But in order to do that, they took off the headliner and accidentally dented my roof. So then they had their roof repair people work on it and they made it worse. So then they had to send my car to a body shop.

Make sure that you bring your car to a good dealership with knowledgeable technicians and demand to speak directly to the foreman of the shop.

Before you bring your car to the dealership though, make sure that you’ve tried fully uninstalling the app, reinstalling, and signing back in. The app apparently caches a lot of information so a reinstall effectively clears the cache.

You could also restart your head unit by holding down the volume wheel on the center console until the iDrive system restarts.

If after both of these issues it still doesn’t work, then you will probably need to bring your car to a dealership.

I just took a look back through all the paperwork that the dealership gave me when I picked up my car. For reference, ask your dealership’s foreman to look into the following parts:
Telematic Control Unit under the headliner with sunroof

ATM Control Unit

Roof Ariel

Antenna

Exactly. I find it very frustrating that the feature was not only marketed to me before I purchased my car, but it’s also in literally every other BMW series that has the Driving Assistance Pro/Plus Package for the same price of $1700 (in the U.S.)

Did you discuss this with your dealership? If so, what is their explanation for why the feature is not in the car? I’m still waiting for an explanation from BMW North America.

I haven't discussed it with the dealer, but I will say, if someone marketed it to you as a feature in the 3 series, they were incorrect in doing so. I'd be pretty pissed too if someone promised me that feature and turns out it doesn't exist.

Simply looking at the owners manuals, the below section details lane change assist in my X5. My 3 series owners manual however, has no such section in it. So this tells me this is not a feature in the US spec 3 series. I have no idea if BMWNA plans to roll this feature out later on via software update, but as of now it's just not a feature.

I now wonder if my early production M340 will lose the feature when they finally update my software. Not that I’ve used it much but still.....

It's just odd that they'd offer it on an early production and then take it away when it's proven to work in other models.

Driving home from dinner tonight in the X5 it worked so well, even alerted me when it couldn't change lanes because there was a car in my blindspot.

You will have to code it into the car to enable the option. All 2019 and 2020 G20 have the ability to perform lane change but its disabled for the moment. Once you code it in you will be able to see the option come up in driver assistance settings

@Phayze
Please go to DIY & Coding sub forum & find the thread entitled, "Does your car have a hidden Tesla mode,?" or something like that

There is a great explanation of how to do it. plus you can code Lane change Assist
I've done both & it's great for extended highway driving

Hope that helps!

My UK spec 330i G20 switches this function on when the 'driver assist' button is hit on the steering wheel.

Mine 2019 production car still on early 2020 software.

In Driving assistance mode (cruise and lane keep assistance active) pushing turn signal stalk against point of resistance for one second (careful not to go over),
Car change lanes perfectly without my input whatsoever, and does it safely, will delay maneuver if there is another car moving fast in the lane you merging in to.
It is a gimmick, not really needed, but cool as it works very well.

Just been out in my car for a hour to test the different scenarios

When I hold the indicator in the resistance point for a second the steering assistant icon in the display goes from green to grey and temporarily cancels the steering assistant and it stays in the same lane :

I would say its safe to say my lane change assistant is not active :

Im going to take this up with the dealer as it was sold to me as having it and its in the brochure!
