Not sure what this monstrosity looks closer to - a Chevy Malibu or a Nissan Sentra (side view). The Hoffmeister kink has been formally buried by BMW - a design cue that every other carmaker would give an arm and a leg for.

So this ugly car will retail in the 40k range in the US? I'd certainly like to see the fool/badge whore that will buy this (I am sure there will be many - that audience that BMW says doesn't know if their car is RWD or FWD)

Looks much better than I expected. Maybe the best rear end treatment of any current BMW. The chrome trim around the pillars and doors looks out of place and the front end proportions could be better but otherwise this is a solid first attempt in the segment. This will do well in Canada.

Love the tail lights and rear end in general! Not sure about the headlights though..
Will consider the m235i if lease prices will be right.. But what I am really waiting for is the new 4 series

I thought the same thing. They gave the rear the X6 treatment. If I just saw this view, I would assume it's a Sports Activity Coupe or whatever they're calling them now.
I can't unsee the squished X4 now. You're spot on!

Your M2 is actually ///M.

This is quasi ///m.
Bmw ///M, please do your magic on this GC & I'll take a test drive one day. I really want a four door at this size. I'll even forgive you for making it FWD if you can boost the power, keep the weight down, and make it handle like an Evo VIII.
I currently have two RWD two door coupes, and an M Roady in my garage. I really, REALLY want a four door GC. Oh, did I already mention that?
It will never be a real ///M.

A bit heavy for it's size. My F36 awd was 3600+ lbs as well.
It surprises me, how BMW managed to get 300hp+ stock out of their 4 banger. And is there any room for an additional boost? :

Current 2 series owners make fun of the new body, when in reality it looks much better, than the older one

What's with all the hate?

Imagine your a smaller individual this will be a nice car. Smaller form factor with the BMW brand.

Nicely spec, this is a solid ride. It's fits the new design language. Has the updated BMW tech.

I feel this is for the ladies and young crowd.

This is the direction. At least it doesn't have that snout of a grill from the concept 4.

Save those remarks for that car. I too don't agree with that.
I mean, I prefer my M240i but my partner really prefers a 4 door and care less if it's FWD or RWD. For folks that are looking for an entry level BMW sedan, I think it does fill the bill. I can see a lot of people buying it, but will have competition.

I'm really curious to drive it to see how it handles.
That's my main point. The purist may have gripes, honestly idk why. But for that fringe buyer who falls in the budget for it will be cool to see how they transition into the BMW lifestyle.

This car is gonna be an interesting one, when looking at the performance of it its damn close to the M2 Competition.

I wonder if BMW ain't gonna be doing an M2 Version of this because some people have really wanted a x-drive version for quite some time of the smaller one.

So if we would have an M2 with RWD and an M2 with AWD versions i don't think that would be that bad either.

I remember when Ford Came with the Ford Focus RS and everyone said you can't pull that of in a FWD car but they did pull it off if Ford could do it i don't see why BMW couldn't .

The styling of the car is subjective as any other styling of a car, there is those who just can't stop complaining how BMW lost their way in styling and yada yada this and that, and there is those of us who are glad BMW is stepping out of the old design elements finally.

But for me this car won't do cause they didn't release an full electric version, would love to have an performance electric car of this type of car. Small form factor car with extreme performance and electric drive with at least a proper 400-450 km in one charge that would tick the box for me.

Thumbs down

There is a reason not even the Koreans are willing to make their cars look like this... This is damn FUGLY and void of any pleasing lines... This is esthetic torture...

BMW has lost it...

First the 4series and now this...

Mazda, Honda, here I come
I will be saving money... No need to lose an arm and a leg just so people can say how much you lack taste...

I can be tasteless for much less, and be less of an idiot..

Piece of crap BMW...

EDIT:. I HAVE looked again at all the photos, and I tried believe me, but there is not a single angle on this car that looks remotely good...
I now hate this car so much... I would vote for This car to be the ugliest car ever... Replacing the Pontiac Aztek...

So damn ugly BMW... Why even buy this... ???!!
