I like wood interior trim but decided to get aluminum - how about you?
Open Pore Fine Wood Oak Grain is my #1, Open Pore Fine Wood Maple #2- but I ended with Aluminum Mesh :

I did open pore oak. My car isn't here yet but that trim looks great in photos/video. The car in the Straight Pipes review has my color and trim. They show the oak up close and comment on how nice it looks.

I had aluminium trim on the last three BM’s, (2 x E90 & 1 x F30) and I said to myself enough is enough!
It’s just too much boy racer and am glad now I went for the Open Pored Oak trim It blends in nicely with the black leather and doesn’t show dust, it is discrete and not obvious as Ali tends to be. It is worth the bit extra it costs. |

Was a tough decision
Just ordered mine and like the post above thought the Aluminium was too boy racer so went for the open pored oak. I did think about it for a while ......

I had aluminum in several cars and never again. It scratches, dings gets dented super easily.
Open pore is the option I checked.

I'll be getting one of the wood trims.
IMHO the Aluminum Tetragon trim looks bad and will appear dated 10 years from now. Last edited by gofast182; 08-22-2019 at 03:33 PM.. |

I can't speak for your G20, of course, but I had my dealer swap the plastic trim for the open pore wood one in my i3. Vastly different cars, but still this makes me think it is doable. Wasn't cheap though.

I went with the open pore and love it. After seeing the aluminum and sitting in the car when it was sunny, there was always glare coming off the trim and it was extremely hot to touch.

My first i3 had open pore Eucalyptus and I loved it. Nice to see the trend spread down the line.

It's all down to personal taste.
I had chosen the Open Pore Fine Wood Oak Grain, but when I saw it in a demonstrator, it was not to my taste - it felt like plastic fake wood although it looks OK. As a result, I changed my order to the Aluminium!

I prefer the aluminum. It goes better with the red interior in my car for starters. I've also always felt that the wood trim aged poorly. When the light shines on traditional wood trim, every single scratch is illuminated in the finish. Maybe the open pore trims are different. The wood also reminds me of the old school, stuffy luxury cars as well, from the era when a strip of wood across the dash meant "luxury car".

Same here. I like wood but I felt the wood looked like fake very plastic a like. I know it's personal but I found it a bit disappointing. Went with alu instead.

+1. In pictures I liked the wood trim a lot but when I saw it in person it just didn't tickle my fancy. To boot the aluminum actually looked much much better in person than in photos.

I found the Aluminum Tetragon to be very busy/distracting to the eye during a test drive, especially with the sun reflecting off of it. Wound up getting the matte Maple, and very happy with it.
