Favorite track you have driven and why

Road America.

Reason is easy. I started going to RA as a fetus so it is my home track. I also have turned the most laps there so another reason to call it my home track.

I've only been on one... the Nuerburgring. Started going once a year or so when I lived in Germany and did 12 laps total in my old MkV GTI. That was between 2010 and 2013.

I've been back in Europe four years now. I try to get down there twice a year now but that was thrown off a bit due to the virus that shall not be named. Since late 2021 I've done 10 or so laps in the 330.

It may not sound like a bunch of laps, but between the Tourist Drive crowds and the stress those 20km (12mi) put on the car, you're not exactly out there churning laps all weekend. It's more about the experience, checking out the parking lot, and grabbing a bite (and drink) later on in the evening. The last two spring breaks I've been taking my boys down for go-karting and a lap or two in dad's car followed by steak on a stone at the Pistenklause.

They do track sessions up at Zandvoort. I feel like I need to at least do one before I leave NL, but from watching the videos it looks like a real mess with a bunch of idiot drivers. :|

What are your thoughts on RA as a relative novice? I've only done Autobahn in Joliet, which is pretty beginner friendly IMO (i.e., lots of runoff and limited walls).

Depending on how the organizer has the track setup, using the chicane at the Kink etc.. I think it is pretty forgiving. There are a few spots you can get in trouble but overall there is plenty of run off room. If you do go into the gravel try to go straight in though.

And as I always preach, start slow and work your way up to speed. Take advantage of an in car instructor if offered.

Now that I am a Bay Area local, my favorite track up here is Sonoma. It’s only 30 mins away from my current residence, is a technical road course that has forced me to be ok with being uncomfortable with this platform such as during the chicane and how much body roll the G20 has, lol. Time to work on more suspension mods.
Back home in Southern California, chuckwalla was very challenging, which made me love it!
Laguna seca, thunderhill are also noteworthy tracks.

peelerec any issues with TPMS throwing low air pressure warnings? I've heard anecdotally that this can prevent going into Sport/Sport+?

I have the low tire pressure warning anytime I am at the track since the tpms is set to my daily pressure of 36-38 hot. It’s never caused issues going into sport or sport + mode. It’s just annoying if anything.

Depends on the tire and ambient temperature. The last two track days were cold, 55 F so I started 31psi cold, which led me to 35psi hot which was perfect that day. On hot summer days, I start at 28psi cold, and eventually end up at 33-35pst hot.

Thanks, this was my line of thinking and my targets too. I can live with the warning, I just don't want my ability to go into Sport/Sport+ prevented.
