Was trading out my M340i for the M850i the right move?
Hey guys, many of you may remember I used to post here when I had my M340i, which I traded out over a year ago for the M850i GC.
Here I discuss and compare both cars, sometimes I wonder if switching out the 3 for 8 series was the right move. Anybody else wanna discuss the differences?

Props to AWE tuning for their exhaust made for the M340i, which I also discuss in the video

Maybe settle in the middle and go for the 5 series? I’m not too familiar with the 5 series or the 8 series but I’m sure the 5 series may have way more aftermarket options.
It may not be a too far step down luxury wise. I had a 5 series loaner for a long weekend and it was very nice. But it felt very big and soft compared to the 3 series. It was a 530. I’m sure the m550 or the performance models feel better. |

Not sure I get the point here. Totally different cars in different segments that aren't cross-shopped. One with a mod and one without.... Why even compare them?

I made the mistake of "upgrading" from the 3/4 series. Once. I was seduced by a 2015 640i GC. It had a more luxurious interior. That was it. In every other way, it was a boat. Nothing about that car was driver-focussed. Couldn't wait for that hulk to come off lease quick enough. Resale on the bigger BMWs tells you everything you need to know. Never again. 3/4 (and the M3/4) are the essence of BMW. If I want a luxoboat, I'll go buy a big Lexus or Genesis. Maybe a used Bentley or S-class. For driving, I know what to stick with now.

We own both a 340ix and M8 convertible. Two different experiences completely. The M8 is more luxurious and better finished than the 340 and is IMO more of a touring car, the ultimate GT. It devours miles on the highway. The 340 is more spirited and nimble, perhaps better all around driver for day to day around the city. I can't speak to the GC. We love both cars, but the M8 is special.

When I was shopping for my 330i, I test drove a 5 series. It felt like driving a boat. Too big for my liking. I do like the extra leg room in the back though for passengers.

Neither am I, which is why I drive my m340i like I stole it. Life is too short to act my age.

All good points here. A few things:
1. I only compared the 8 to the 3 series because I made the move myself, I know most people aren't cross shopping them 2. I did look for the M550i, problem is that I think the 8 series is better looking, and the one pre-owned M550i (in my budget) that I found had a lot of wheel rust that the dealer refused to take care of, so I passed on it 3. Despite my points in this video, if you see some of the videos in my channel I actually really love the car (M850i). It actually does not feel like a boat due to rear axle steer, but yes it's still not quite as nimble as the 3 series Ultimately the limited availability of mods (exhausts) is my biggest complaint
