Track My BMW

Just wondering how frequently the production queue advances. Last week, my BMW tracking said "production begins." Now it is nearly a week later and the same message appears. Is production progress normally this slow?

I would keep the below two things in mind:

1.) Online status is relatively quick at updating, but not real-time. In other words, your car could start production on Day 1, but status may not update until Day 2, etc.
2.) Just because you ordered a vehicle for production, doesn't mean it was set to start production right away. Dealer allocations (car production slots) have production weeks assigned to them. Generally a dealer will try to let your production vehicle have a slot that is sooner than later, but if you order at Week 22, and your vehicle is assigned a Week 24 allocation, your vehicle will take 2 weeks before it starts production.

My car finally arrived after the long transatlantic/Panama Canal/Baja California journey. The port is near Oxnard, California and I'm picking the car up at a Sacramento dealer. The website shows "at the port," where it's been since 5/17.

My CA says he expects to have it by 5/27, but then they'll need to do some processing before I can pick it up.

I'm hoping it's getting on a truck and coming up the central valley soon.

I ordered the car at the end of March, so it's looking like a total two-month turnaround.

My car is finally on its way to the dealership. No idea how long it will take them to truck the car from Oxnard to Sacramento. After that, it'll be some processing at the dealer before I can come in to start signing the finance agreement.

Hopefully I'll have the car in my possession by this time next week!

I ordered on 25/04. Car is going into production next week (27-31 May). Delivery is expected before 15/06.

Post-order production waiting time is affected by many parameters, some of them being current demand, but also availability of engine and equipment.
Additionally, if your dealer has pre-ordered production slots that can greatly reduce the waiting time.

Stuck in Quality Check can mean a few things ranging from a simple delay in status update (I.E. car might be out of factory awaiting a railcar to transport to port) all the way to a defect found that has to be corrected. Dealer may have better info if you ask your CA to check the status code #.

I suggest you ask dealer for build week. For instance week of June 3rd is week 23. Car assembly may begin anytime during that week. Expected time from start of body to exit from factory is 3 days. Often cars get held up (delayed) in quality check or final assembly stage if issues are discovered requiring rework of some sort.

Post-order production waiting time is affected by many parameters, some of them being current demand, but also availability of engine and equipment.
Additionally, if your dealer has pre-ordered production slots that can greatly reduce the waiting time.
Dealers are given build slots (allocation) for each model /engine type. Options can be changed to customers preference, however engine is fixed to that specific slot and cannot be changed. Sometimes same for the transmission type.

When BMW has an engine shortage, the build slots are cut and dealers have fewer cars available with that engine. What I'm trying to say is BMW forecasts the key components and offers build slots based on availability of components.

Options, individual orders, custom paint can delay an order build week. Also stop production orders can delay things when issues are discovered triggering a stop sale/stop production. These stops don't happen often at the production level. It's very costly to BMW to slow down or idle the production line.

Thank you, will follow up. I tried calling the genius hotline, and they didn’t have any details available.

Cars get loaded onto railcars then wait for movement to port. Can take a few days in occasion. Or the status might be off and car may be enroute.

Slightly relevant...how many days prior to your production week can you make changes to order?

Here's how it works

111 status - all options can be changed
112 status - some options can be changed
150 status - locked, no more changes

When it changes to production begins on the my garage website, that's 150 status. BMW has scheduled your options through the logistics system for your build which is usually 1-2 weeks away from entering the body assembly phase.

Your dealer can give you the production week # which will give you an idea when the status will change to body assembly. Once you enter the body assembly stage your car might be done and out of the factory in 3-4 days. Sometimes cars get hung up at quality check or final assembly if issues arise during production.
