Tesla Model Pricing starts $37,990. The i4 is way more luxurious than a T Model 3 and my guess starting at $51,000. It will be a way better car but not a competing for the same buyer. Audi, VW, Mercedes all many others will b the i4 competitors.

All the Germans are definitely competing with Tesla in my opinion, as Tesla is capturing some of their clientele. The 3-series being the number two vehicle traded after the Prius based on a Model 3 survey in 2019. Tesla’s Model 3 Success Hits BMW the Hardest

Competition is not defined by car makers; it's not defined by observers; it's not defined by the automotive press. Competition is defined by what consumers cross-consider and decide among in their purchase. Interestingly, about 40% +/- overall consider no other vehicle when they choose their new vehicle; for that purchase, there is no competition by definition.

The Model 3 is the reason why BMW is rushing to release an EV. Tesla has been taking 3 series sales for 3 years now. The only place the Model 3 or any Tesla for that matter, cannot compete with BMW, is fit and finish and material quality. Everything else they are crushing BMW, especially anything related to technology. BMW is playing catch-up here. |

$80-90k? In my opinion, that's too much for a 4 series. I don't believe this will be competing with the Model S, and in that price range, you can get a nice Model S.

BMW has a weird problem. They're afraid of canabilizing their own 3 series sales. But if they don't make a compelling Model 3 competitor, then Tesla will keep eating their lunch anyways. Might as well canabilize your own sales and retain your existing clientelle and move them to EVs.

Gonna be tough to compete in looks with the E-Tron GT, which is essentially a sister car to the Taycan. Not to mention electric is Audi's opportunity to finally use a real RWD based platform and not understeer for once!

Not a good sign... The inevitable i4 vs Mach E comparison test reviews will be interesting. Last edited by Sportstick; 01-23-2021 at 09:05 AM.. |

Sadly, the pricing on the E-Tron GT will likely be relatively close to Taycan’s.

Ouch, if so that's DOA in my opinion. Would much rather have the Porsche at that price.

All the current RS vehicles that have comparable Porsche models (RS6/Panamera ST, Cayenne Turbo/RSQ8) the Audi is considerably cheaper. I don't think VAG would price an Audi RS so high.

BMW can charge 10k premium over "similar" Tesla, or maybe 15k, much more would be harder unless BMW can significantly out range Tesla

Audi GT is probably high priced, but has more equipment as standard. Also options are cheaper, so the price difference of the car you really buy is probably much larger compared to Taycan.

Yes, but the RS e-tron GT will be based on the same innovative but expensive 800V architecture as Taycan. I would be genuinely shocked if the base price started below 150k USD.

Ive a feeling this car will fall a bit short. And seeing that C&D article complaining about the 4 series handling.. thats a very bad sign. Adding a huge battery pack isnt going to be a benefit in that regard. Will be curious as to how the Audi falls into line, and how they price it significantly lower than the Taycan. Id assume that 2 speed rear transmission is the first to go, but there has to be more than that. Considering the Taycan range isnt exceptional, smaller batteries are out of the question. |

True, but this is analogous to saying McDonald's has good food because they have so many locations. Based on all reviews and owner data reports early and recent regarding quality, no Teslas for me. I'd be in a Mach E far sooner, but still hoping BMW gets i4 right.
