Hi All,

Does the trim panel that covers your cupholders + phone storage / wireless charger ; Creak or Crack when it's opened and stowed into the center stack.

I am currently hearing creak's and crack's whenever I accelerate from a stop, go over undulations in the road at 40 + mph, decelerating quickly, and going over rough pavement.

Does your car show the same behavior when that trim panel cover is open?


My Dealership says there is nothing they can really do about it. Is this expected or should I push BMW warranty to fix it?

Open, closed, doesn't matter. Of the ~40 cars I've owned over the years, this one is probably one of the most solidly built. Much better than some of my significantly more expensive vehicles. For $49k before $5,400 tax incentive, I definitely can't complain.

MY 22 with 31k miles, no creaks open or closed. I also removed the open pore wood trim and installed the Matte m performance CF trim, which also does not creak.

You’re quite lucky then. My 22 with 35k miles makes random noises all the time and even the speakers make noises it should lol

My 20 early build no creaks or unpleasant noises, currently at 35k miles.

MY 20 with 45k miles no rattles or creaks anywhere, my last car an F30 330i was solid as well with 53k miles at trade in.

BMW has come a long way since the E46 HK speaker rattle days.

Dang only 1/14 have some kind of cracking / creaking!

So I was in queue to Stevens Creek BMW to get it fix due to statistics of no cracking / creaking being so good.

Pardon my Rant and Language from here.

Then the tech Diagnose gave SOME OF THE LAMEST BULL I'VE SEEN. INSTEAD OF LITERALLY MOVING THE CABLE DOWN HE MOVED IT IN AND POSTED IT AS OUTSIDE INFLUNCE AND WANTED $300 THE F? TO TOP IT OFF THEY TORE OFF MY ROOF TRIM AFTER RUNNING IT THROUGH A CAR WASH WHEN I HAD INTERIOR SIGNS THAT SAID NO WASH. Why do you do this to me 13th!? If anyone is thinking of using Stevens Creek BMW avoid them like the black plague...

Wow. They truly are special. At a loss for words considering the cable being an “outside influence” and the clearly visible Do Not Wash RED tag.
You should escalate to management.

I'm curious, what's with all the cables strewn about? Honestly, I think the cable probably has something to do with the cup holder lid creaking.

They quickly provided me with a Loaner and will fix my roof tomorrow with no clips / same trim panel. They will also have the manager of the tech look at the cup holder cover trim panel as well. Should I escalate further?

One cable (black) powers my radar detector and the other cable (red) powers my dash cam. The cables are not touching the cup holder lid at all and are routed around it. The tech physically placed the black cable over the lid in that picture versus letting it run next to my red cable on the side. In the zoomed out picture of my interior from passenger door P.O.V..

Hi there. The cover for my cup holder has two cracks in the veneer poly clear coating. I had it looked into when I took my car for service. The service rep told me it was scrapes and to replace it was 350.00 and it wasn't under warranty ( the car is 2 yrs old). He claims he had it inspected by a "Specialist". I know he was lying but I just let it go. Will have it looked at at another dealer as I have something else now that needs fixing. The air flow roller on the passenger side by the tweeter is stuck. Seems like it is pushed in. Well have that checke out soon.

His eyes are very special right 😉 --> 🤮. Two year old + cleaner interior = craftsmenship defect on bmw's end : the lazyship just doesn't want to fight and charge you more money.
Yeah try a better rated dealership with good ratings on Yelp and Google for service. In NorCal BMW Dealership service I only know one service in the Bay Area that does a good job without messing up other things while doing it. I only took it to it back to Stevens Creek cause my favorite dealership was busy / booked and I bought the Car CPO here so I thought they were decent...but I learned like you did too.

TakeshiJin I really don't like Stevens Creek. I had 2 different appointments to view cars, but no, they didn't have them when I showed up. My previous car from them was an E89 Z4. They washed it with that very machine. Swirls all over the car. I ended up buying from a different mediocre dealer who delivered my car and said "Yeah, there was a CEL, you should take it to the local dealer"

Yes. Let's just say the service rep worked for the corporate dealership in Manhattan. We can all guess which one that is. Will probably take it to Rallye to look at it and fix the air vent. Yes sometime there is such a disconnect between sales and service. But life goes on with our first world issues. Lol.

Hey All!

Thanks for the confirmation with your Center lid cover! I finally got it fixed with a dealer who doesn't try to scam me by moving a cable!

For the remaining 4 who have cracks the fix is G20 SIB 51 04 21. Apparently BMW knows this issue and has remedied it by the techs putting in Felt Tape!

However they removed the storage compartment to apply felt tape.

Not my armrest storage compartment is hard to close . Before it was super easy with a simple click. Now I have to man handle it and press it down hard to clip into place. Is your Center Armrest storage compartment hard to press in or is it easy with a light tap?

Edit : They nudged the Armrest into place and now it closes perfectly fine again .
